#BorisJohnson #lies: he refuses to correct the record over #inflation

Last Updated: January 12, 2022By Tags: , , , , , , ,

Remember this, from last week’s Prime Minister’s Questions?

As you can see, Angela Rayner had him bang to rights; she had quoted him word-for-word.

But shortly after Prime Minister’s Questions on January 5, he declined to correct the record (or was prevented from doing so by Lindsay Hoyle) …

At PMQs on January 12 he was again provided the opportunity to correct the record, this time by Ruth Cadbury (who?) – and his response was, well:

Mealy-mouthed nonsense.

As you can see from the October clip, Johnson made it clear that he was talking about inflation-related fears over “a very long time”, not about predictions “then” – October 2021.

He had a perfect “get-out” from Lindsay Hoyle, who interjected after the question was asked this week to say that if Johnson had misled the Commons, he had done so “inadvertently”.

But Johnson didn’t take that option.

We can only conclude that he was deliberately perpetuating the lie.

Someone should have had a quiet word in his ear, to remind him of a very simple maxim:

When you’re in a hole, stop digging.
