#RachelRiley #libel case: Mike’s statement is dynamite! Help make sure it is heard in court

Today I put my signature to the statement that forms the basis of my evidence to the High Court in Rachel Riley’s libel case against me – and it is excoriating.

Sadly, I can’t tell you anything that’s in it!

The only way you can find out what it says is if I can get it heard at a trial – and that is by no means a certainty.

Just getting the statement drafted out, with help by my legal team, has cost nearly £9,000. The trial will cost much more.

For clarity: Riley thinks I libelled her because I stood up for a 16-year-old girl with mental illness related to anxiety, who (I say) she had abused, harassed, and caused to be abused and harassed by her followers and supporters.

In my defence, all I have to do is show that I reasonably believed that it was in the public interest for me to publish a story saying this.

My belief does not need to represent the only conclusion a person could draw from the evidence available – and does not even need to be correct. It simply needs to be reasonable.

And when my evidence comes out, I think any reasonable person will agree that it is.

If my evidence comes out, that is.

It needs to be heard in court, and court doesn’t come cheap.

So please – if you want the evidence to be heard; if you want to see justification for nearly three years of hard work to get to this point; if you want to see justice done, then do one or several of the following:

Consider making a donation yourself, via the CrowdJustice page.

Email your friends, asking them to pledge to the CrowdJustice site.

Post a link to Facebook, asking readers to pledge.

On Twitter, tweet in support, quoting the address of the appeal.

Throughout this case, Riley has tried to use her extreme wealth – and my comparative poverty – to have her way. That is not justice. That is an attempt to buy the courts.

Let’s put out a clear message that this will not be tolerated.

Have YOU donated to my crowdfunding appeal, raising funds to fight false libel claims by TV celebrities who should know better? These court cases cost a lot of money so every penny will help ensure that wealth doesn’t beat justice.
