PMQs: Boris Johnson suffers meltdown over Ukrainian refugees

Last Updated: March 9, 2022By Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Meltdown: Boris Johnson lost his thread, his reason, and possibly his mind trying to defend his government’s execrable record on admitting Ukrainian refugees. The reason is clear: he’s trying to obstruct them as much as possible, but he can’t be seen to be doing so.

Boris Johnson’s appalling record of turning away hundreds of refugees from the UK – because they didn’t have the right paperwork – led to him suffering an apparent meltdown during Prime Minister’s Questions in Parliament.

We all know the situation, and I can illustrate it with a few tweets:

So the UK demands a mountain of paperwork – somebody was asked for a utility bill; who thinks to bring one of those along when they’re running for their life? – and turns people away in any case.

Reading from a file (!) Johnson tried to say this wasn’t true – but his claim about visa centres being open across eastern Europe rang false after the BBC had revealed a “pop-up” centre for Calais – discussed in Parliament yesterday (March 8) had failed to appear today.

His speech fell into hesitation and incoherence partway through. He managed to pull himself together enough to deliver a rehearsed line about the importance of checks – but was almost immediately contradicted by another questioner:

“When will refugees from the Ukraine be welcome in the United Kingdom?”

I think we all know the answer to that, under Johnson’s government:

When they no longer want to come here.

Shameful and utterly callous stance from little fascist dictator duck johnson concerning his fascist tory government (not a government but a dictatorship) doing their utmost to keep those ‘nasty Ukrainian women, children and men out of little england!’ Even worse little fascist dictator duck johnson is himself a migrant because he was born in the USA!

The fascist tory stance is one of xenophobia, hatred for non-British women, children and men and not forgetting endemic racism!

Putin must be delighted that fascist little dictator duck johnson is subjecting thousands of women, children and men to systemic cruelty and yes torture – because these women, children and men are forced to stand outside a ramshackle little office in atrocious weather and then the staff turn them away!

Shame shame on fascist little duck johnson and his equally criminal gang of fascist tories!

‘She and her mother, a professor of political science at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, drove two and a half hours to the centre from Krakow on Monday – where the doors were shut later in the afternoon when the centre hit its 100-person capacity.

They returned on Tuesday, where staff informed the crowds that they would not work through a list created the previous day, but instead will “prioritise people who booked appointments through the website”.

“The whole process was designed to let as few Ukrainians in (to the UK) as possible,” Ms Kay said.

“It’s confusing as hell and the rules are changing every day – it’s impossible to complete the process.

“It is the hardest, most dehumanising and humiliating process in comparison to other countries.”
