Rees-Mogg has been leaving ‘demeaning’ notes for civil servants working from home

Jacob Rees-Mogg: he reckons it’s inefficient for civil servants to work from home and not in the office – but seems happy to have a nap in his own place of work.

Here’s another Tory who wants to make the people who do the actual work of government look bad, while distracting attention away from his colleagues and their lockdown-busting rave-ups.

Jacob Rees-Mogg has been leaving nasty little notes on the desks of civil servants who have been working from home – because he refuses to accept that they are capable of providing a better quality of work if they’re not tied to an office.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Office minister has been merrily defending prime minister Boris Johnson’s attendance at parties in Downing Street – that break the rules Johnson himself announced to the public.

He said the fact that Johnson had been fined for disobeying his own rules in order to attend parties was “fundamentally trivial” “fluff”. That’s even though Johnson is also accused of the extremely serious offence of lying to Parliament about what he did.

What a hypocrite. If anything is “fundamentally trivial” “fluff”, it’s his determination to leave creepy little notes for the civil servants who make him look competent.

I’m a county councillor and one of the committees I chair looks at staffing and what we’ve learned about hybrid working and presentee-ism s it’s been called. What we have learned is that productivity of those working from home has actually gone up during Covid and we have now instituted a policy where we will be encouraging working from home where possible, hybrid working where that is more appropriate and of course being at their place of work where the role s customer facing or frontline such as carers or cleansing etc even our Tory committee embers see that this is the best approach.
It is indicative of the UK government’s attitude and lack of trust their own civi servants that they demand that they still commute to a back room office to sit at a computer all day then commute home rather than starting fresh and on time and being able to complete great deal more and often knock off a bit late as they aren’t in a hurry to rejoin the rush hour struggle and get home knackered.

Since they are WFH a note on their office desk is meaningless.

When a picture says a 1000 words, or something like that! I’ve just read one of the notes elsewhere; I may be paraphrasing a little but essentially :

‘Sorry to miss you. Look forward to seeing you in the office very soon. Best regards….’

Collect all the notes, put them on a piece of string and stick them in the loo – as happened in the good old days he loves so much.

What an utter disgrace he is.
