Energy costs: how will disabled people survive on the £150 payout from Liz Truss?

Last Updated: September 20, 2022By Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Disabled people face higher living costs than those of us who are able-bodied, but Liz Truss and her Tory government don’t care about that.

They have offered a pittance of £150 to cover the shocks disabled households are facing – and that was before they raised the energy price cap by more than that amount.

They say there are other methods of support – but people with disabilities are most likely to be receiving the Personal Independence Payment of up to £92 per week already.

Disabled people need extra money to cover their extra costs.

But Liz Truss claims her energy costs on expenses so she doesn’t understand.

    To get this into proportion,
That’s just enough to pay the (currently) 27p a day Gas Standing Charge (£10 a month) for just having a Meter that you can’t afford to switch on.
(Housing Associations do not allow you to have the meter removed, even if it could be done free of charge.)
The £30 left over will be swallowed up by the new, higher charges.

Also, bear in mind that the Warm Homes Discount will be managed by the DWP from now on.
Many disabled will not qualify for it either this or any subsequent years so the £150 this year will replace the WHD not be in addition to it and next year they get nothing.

Yes could not disagree with what you have written, We have been forgot about for so many years.
But when it comes to changes or Benefits we are classified as Scroungers Dole Wallers or Educationally Sub Normal.
We as a group of people have been lambasted for over Twenty years, yet the companies are very reluctant to take people on due to being labelled as either an asset or a liability.
So we are always on the back foot and treated so different yet all we want is to work of an even playing field.
It would just be nice to be treated the same as everyone else.

I am in this band of people who need extra heating during the winter as I have arthritis in my spine and a muscle condition which causes spasms when I am cold. You will have experienced cramp in the bottom of your foot so imagine what it is like along the length of your spine. £150 will cover me for 2 months electricity with Ovo now, that is WITHOUT the heating on so it is wildly inaccurate to believe that it will cover the estimated costs of running night storage heaters for 7 days a week during a 4 month winter. I will gladly swap Liz Truss my £150 for the ability to claim my heating on expenses as she does. I will donate a wheelchair to her for free!

Another wonderful idea from the fascist tories because giving disabled women and men a few crumbs will ensure one thing and that is sadly many disabled women and men will die this winter! This is exactly what the fascist tories want to happen because disabled women and men are supposedly ‘a drain on the fascist tories economy!’

Don’t worry folks Liz Truss and her fellow MPs will have their energy bills paid for them by us and as usual it is our public money being given as ‘handouts’ to these greedy fascist tories!

Oh say the fascist tories we have so many benefits in place which the disabled can claim. More crumbs which won’t make any difference to the suffering fascist tories are continuing to inflict on disabled women, men and not forgetting children!

Remember government supposedly operates to benefit and support us ordinary peasants including disabled peasants but reality is the fascist tory dictatorship only works to benefit their greedy wealth billionaire bros!
