Liz Truss vetoes campaign for people to use less energy and cut bills

The Conservatives decided not to give people information on how to use less energy to cut bills. Lower use would also reduce demand and the risk of power cuts.

Insane, don’t you think – especially after Liz Truss was told to expect regular power cuts throughout the winter.
But it is true. Here‘s that paragon of factual reporting, the BBC:
The government has decided not to launch a public information campaign on reducing energy use this winter after the prime minister’s office raised objections, the BBC has been told.
The BBC understands the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) was … considering plans to advise households to switch off their appliances and heating to conserve energy whenever possible during winter.
However, the BBC has been told that the department was stopped from taking the plan forward because of objections from the prime minister’s office and the Department of Health and Social Care.
The Times newspaper had reported that the prime minister had rejected plans for a £15m public information campaign, which was signed off by the business secretary, Jacob Rees-Mogg.
It suggested Ms Truss was “ideologically opposed” to the campaign amid concerns it would be too interventionist.
In a tweet, Conservative MP Guy Opperman said he would he “fully behind” an energy saving campaign that would help people and the taxpayer save money.
“This is not Nanny state,” he wrote, arguing it was about “preserving supply, saving money for everyone, and encouraging localism”.
Who do you believe? The Tory government that does not have a reputation for honesty? Or the news outlets (whose reputations have also been tarnished in recent years – mostly by contact with the Tories)?
This Writer looks forward to what Truss (or her successor) will say if blackouts happen because people haven’t reined back their energy use.

They can’t bear to spend a single penny to help anyone who isn’t already filthy rich
The thing is though, the less energy you use the less the shareholders get in dividends. To make up for this loss the only reasonable conclusion is to increase the cost of using said energy. We then end up in a spiralling win win situation where the shareholders benefit, the cost of providing nothing is nothing, but the profits could be humongous and the benefit of no supply is staggering.
It all seems to all point towards enriching the Energy Companies.
1. People are pointing to the fact that Truss with her huge campaign donations from fossil fuel companies is repaying them with the huge “Energy Bung” and doesn’t want to discourage people from using less energy.
2. Smart Meters, pushed by the Tories are revealing their true nature by using the technology for charging you more at peak times (you don’t seriously believe that you’ll get £10 a day back?)
