With Kwarteng gone, how secure is Liz Truss looking?

Last Updated: October 14, 2022By Tags: ,

She might be fooling herself that she’s safe now – but Liz Truss’s job as prime minister is hanging by a thread.

Sacking (as we’ve now discovered) Kwasi Kwarteng doesn’t change the fact that his ‘fiscal event’ – and the mini-budget details in it – was entirely Truss’s plan. She ran her Tory leadership campaign on the basis of policies within it and it will be extremely difficult for her to disengage from it.

And now she is scaring the markets even more by dithering over who to appoint as the new Chancellor.

Let’s have some commentary from the usual social media pundits.

Here’s Professor Tim Wilson:

Shortly after this, he added a new vlog entry in exasperation:

Phil Moorhouse reckons there will be a confidence vote and Truss will lose:

He’s saying Labour should call for an end to Truss’s premiership.

But will Truss’s own backbenchers beat him to it?
