Is the Green Party emerging as the UK’s ‘protest vote’ of choice?

We can’t use Labour to protest against the Tories any more because they’re practically identical nowadays (just look at the way they both support health service privatisation).

We can’t use the Liberal Democrats because they just side with Labour or the Tories – whichever of the other parties has the most seats – if they get a sniff of power. And we all remember how that turned out between 2010 and 2015, don’t we?

So where else can we turn?

From the evidence available, it seems the Green Party may be about to have its day.

Here’s a sample vote projection in just one part of the country, with an obvious conclusion attached:

Fair point?

Mid Suffolk seems to be a target council for the Greens – but there are many other opportunities, it seems, according to the representative in the next clip (who seems to be called Zack Polanski):

But it’s possible that the Green message is breaking through to more than just its target areas. How about your local council estate?

No one can deny the Greens are getting their message across,

the article states.

Residents in Barrowfield say they will vote Green again in May. They praise the work that Green councillors have done so far.

So it’s not just a tactical vote. It’s a vote for a party whose candidates actually succeed in representing the people.

That’s more than Labour can say – especially with Keir Starmer in charge.

If you’re voting on May 4, will you be turning Green?

You’re more likely to see Labour’s Keir Starmer in court than on the campaign trail

The High Court in London: are Keir Starmer and Labour spending more time there than Vox Political’s Mike has?

Can you believe how many high-profile court cases Keir Starmer’s Labour is embroiled in?

Witch-hunters from Labour Against Anti-Semitism have launched a demand for millions of pounds in damages because they reckon the so-called ‘Labour Leaks’ report has outed nine of them as having made complaints against party members.

The trouble is… it seems they have been publicly admitting it themselves.

Meanwhile, Keir Starmer is still pursuing – through the courts – people he thinks were behind the leaking of that damning report, even though he doesn’t actually have the faintest idea who was responsible.

All in all, this litigation against the Left is costing Starmer a fortune – but he won’t give up because he doesn’t like to lose.

Meanwhile, Labour is – what? – £15 million short of the cash it needs to carry out a winnable general election campaign, because Starmer squandered the £13 million Jeremy Corbyn left in the party bank account (on court cases) and either turned away or expelled the member who would others have contributed and campaigned for funds.

It seems the private firms he thought would support him haven’t bothered.

Here’s Damo, to put some meat on the bones I’ve laid out for you above:

Reasons not to vote ‘Conservative’ on May 4

Conservatives: still for the privileged few.

The Tories have apparently put out a party political broadcast in advance of the local elections – that doesn’t actually mention anything that local government can change.

It does provide us with multiple reasons not to vote for the Conservatives, though – if we keep ourselves well-enough informed to counter the nonsense arguments in the clip.

Here’s the ever-reliable Peter Stefanovic:

To add more information to the mix, here’s a little further reading on the reason we have so many asylum applications outstanding at the moment – waiting to be processed:

It’s clear that the Conservatives are trying to deliberately mislead you – or so it seems to me.

If it seems that way to you – and you’re an adult living in England or Northern Ireland – please give your vote to somebody more deserving.

A ‘fair and reasonable’ pay offer for nurses? You’ll get psittacosis listening to these Tory parrots!

Mark Harper: like a parrot, he’s repeated endlessly that the Tory pay cut for nurses is “fair and reasonable”. You’ll need a nurse to treat you for psittacosis after listening too much to him!

Tory ministers have been doing the media rounds, telling us how “fair and reasonable” their latest real-terms pay cut for nurses is.

Watch the clip of Mark Harper, sitting on his massive ministerial salary (that has risen at a rate within one per cent of the rate of inflation) and trying to convince Sky’s Sophie Ridge that a pay rise that’s half inflation is “decent”:

Now listen to the ever-brilliant Peter Stefanovic, telling us the facts that people like Harper don’t want us to know.

But still the Tories adhere to their “Big Lie” philosophy – tell a lie often enough and enough people will believe it.

Psittacosis, also known as parrot fever, is an infectious disease that people can contract from the tropical avians, with flu-like symptoms accompanied by a kind of pneumonia.

The most anybody can expect to get from listening to these Tory parrots is a hefty dose of that!

Want your politicians to actually represent you? Vote for the independents!

Keir Starmer’s style of leadership: “Do what I tell you, whether you like it or not!”

Have you noticed how Labour MPs who get pushed out of the party suddenly regain their ability to represent their constituents again?

Look – here’s Jeremy Corbyn:

And here’s Claudia Webbe:

Contrast them with this story of Keir Starmer, Labour’s leader, taking part in a football match against Scottish Labour – but only if his side won:

The message is clear: if you’re a representative of the Labour Party under Keir Starmer, you do what Starmer wants – whether it is good for the electorate or not.

Get out of the Labour Party and you’re free to – well, to do your job!

Even when it comes to local elections, which kind of politician would you rather have?

Here’s why MPs are so keen on private health companies

Wes Streeting: the Shadow Health Secretary took £22,500 in donations from private health firms last year, according to EveryDoctor’s interactive map. Why would he end NHS privatisation and stop that money from coming to him?

Did you ever hear of an organisation called EveryDoctor?

It’s a group of doctors campaigning to revive the National Health Service in the face of huge political effort – from both main parties – to kill it off in favour of private companies.

And it has compiled an interactive map showing not only the extent of Tory-driven privatisation, but MPs’ interests in private health firms.

Here’s the tweet announcing it:

To provide a taste of what you’ll find if you use the map, the organisation has been tweeting interesting entries on it:

The really important element to grasp is that it isn’t only Tories who are making money from private health. Look at this:

This is the Shadow Health Secretary. Perhaps now Labour’s about-turn on health policy, so it now supports the increased use of private companies, makes more sense.

Here’s another Labour donation – but this one went straight to the top: Keir Starmer took £12,500 from a private health firm.

Do you really think he’s going to bite the hand that feeds him by returning the NHS to the principles on which it was founded and kicking private profit-makers out?

It seems unlikely to me.

Yvette Cooper’s take has been massive:

It seems clear that this is the reason neither Labour nor the Tories want to rid your health service of the private, profit-making parasites:

They are taking donations from those firms.

Isn’t it time for an investigation into Tory donors that get huge government contracts?

Backhander: have the Tories been funnelling public money to their friends and donors in return for practically nothing? And if so, shouldn’t these people face justice?

Take a look at this:

The claims in the image appear to be accurate.

This is just one of many accounts showing that Tory friends and donors have benefited from government contracts.

The latest apparent beneficiary is Akshata Murty, the wife of the prime minister himself – Rishi Sunak.

Yet all these financial arrangements go uninvestigated.

Personally, I think retweeting the message above might not be enough to achieve the necessary.

By all means do, but consider contacting your own MP as well, to express your own desire for an investigation into connections between Tory MPs and party or personal donors who receive large business contracts – especially deals that, for one reason or another – fall through.

Such bad deals endanger lives – as we discovered during the Covid crisis, when huge amounts of duff personal protective equipment were bought by the Tories from donors and friends, when reliable gear could have been purchased from reputable sources – that didn’t have friends in the Tory government.

It is in the national interest for us to find out for sure what has been going on.

Right-wing news channel falsely accuses Jewish cartoonist of making anti-Semitic cartoon

Michael Rosen: He’s Jewish but has previously been accused of anti-Semitism over his support for Jeremy Corbyn. Now he has been accused of anti-Semitism on an entirely false premise.

We seem to be living in an age of accusing Jewish people of being anti-Semitic.

It’s utter insanity – this time perpetrated by right-wing current affairs channel GB News against Jewish poet and former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen.

It seems GB News presenter Katherine Forster accidentally attributed a cartoon in The Guardian to Mr Rosen, when it was actually by Martin Rowson.

Unfortunately for all concerned, this particular cartoon featured a depiction of recently-resigned BBC Chairman Richard Sharp – who is Jewish – with a box marked Goldman Sachs, where he used to work, that contained what appeared to be a puppet of the current prime minister Rishi Sunak, an animal that looks like a squid and a CV – while Boris Johnson, on a high pile of an unidentifiable substance (the Independent seems to have reckoned money) calls out encouragingly to him.

The cartoon has been described as having “antisemitic imagery” such as “outsized, grotesque features” alongside “money and power”.

Mr Rowson has apologised profusely for the image, as reported in The Independent:

“Satirists, even though largely licenced to speak the unspeakable in liberal democracies, are no more immune to f****** things up than anyone else, which is what I did here.

“I know Richard Sharp is Jewish; actually, while we’re collecting networks of cronyism, I was at school with him, though I doubt he remembers me.

“His Jewishness never crossed my mind as I drew him as it’s wholly irrelevant to the story or his actions, and it played no conscious role in how I twisted his features according to the standard cartooning playbook.”

The Guardian has also published an apology on Twitter:

And the cartoon has indeed been removed.

GB News seems to have been more reticent about apologising for its own transgression.

Mr Rosen contacted the channel – via Twitter – at 4pm on Saturday, and requested a response detailing what it proposed to do about the error:

He repeated his request almost a quarter of an hour later:

From the tweet that follows, it seems GB News deleted its tweeted clip showing discussion of the cartoon, but not before it had been viewed 79,000 times.

At around 5pm, Ms Forster tweeted an apology to Mr Rosen and said the tweet had been removed. He responded with gratitude for her words, and with a statement crystallising his own view – that GB News should broadcast a correction along with its own apology:

He had already requested a correction by the time he had responded to Ms Forster:

By now, his supporters were making suggestions of their own. Mr Rosen, in the spirit of fairness, said he was waiting for GB News to respond:

Then he even put up a suggested wording:

That was at 5.36pm, Saturday, April 29. I’ve seen no apology/correction from GB News – although it has published a story about The Guardian‘s apology for the cartoon.

That piece does not mention or apologise for the broadcast comments about Martin Rowson.

This Site has contacted GB News to find out what the channel intends to do – if anything.

If no apology is forthcoming, it will be up to Mr Rosen to decide whether to take the matter further.

Richard Sharp’s resignation in depth: the taint of Boris Johnson

Influence: Richard Sharp (left) and Boris Johnson.

Here’s an aspect to Richard Sharp’s resignation as BBC Chairman that needs to be more thoroughly examined: his relationship with Boris Johnson and what that former prime minister wanted from the media.

This aspect was explored by James O’Brien on LBC:

The assumption is that Boris Johnson wasn’t happy that the right-wing of politics controls 90 per cent of the media and wanted to put his people in charge of organisations including Ofcom and the BBC, to ensure even more right-wing media dominance.

It suggests that Johnson failed with Ofcom but succeeded with the BBC.

Now take a look at the way the BBC’s Ros Atkins examines the Sharp case:

Again, Johnson is mentioned – but his intention in appointing Sharp is glossed-over. The report comes across as fence-sitting.

Is this an aspect of Sharp’s Tory influence?

If that is even possible, is it right that Sharp remains in post until June, while a new BBC chairperson is interviewed, vetted and appointed?

The 2017 poll results that show Labour’s antisemitism crusade is based on a lie

If you’re having trouble coping with the idea that Keir Starmer’s Labour Party – for all its posturing about opposing racism, opposing anti-Semitism – is in fact both anti-Semitic and racist, here’s some context.

Way back in 2017, just two years after Jeremy Corbyn was elected as leader of the Labour Party, the Tory-owned polling firm YouGov ran a survey on anti-Semitism in the main political parties.

The results will be surprising to anybody who believes Labour became more anti-Semitic under Mr Corbyn’s leadership: in fact, the reverse is the case.

The poll was commissioned by the Campaign Against Antisemitism, and This Writer’s experience of that organisation suggests that this was an attempt to find that Labour had become more anti-Semitic between 2015 (before Mr Corbyn was elected) and 2017.

But the graph shows that anti-Semitic attitudes among Labour members had not only fallen – they had fallen more sharply than in either the Conservative or Liberal Democrat parties:

Dorset Eye explains what the findings said to Mr Corbyn’s political opponents:

It meant a lot of work was required to tarnish the name of a long term human rights supporter and anti racist. This is when the establishment set to work.

That work involved attacking campaigners against racism and anti-Semitism as exactly the kind of people they opposed. It involved accusing Jewish people of being anti-Semites.

It involved vilifying Mr Corbyn and his supporters – including Diane Abbott; the woman who receives more racist hate mail than any other MP has now been accused of racism herself.

All on the basis of a lie – or at least, on a claim that could not be supported by the facts. Keir Starmer’s right-wingers in Labour have a lot to answer for.

You can read more from Dorset Eye here: Yougov poll from 2017 has some very interesting insights in to where the antisemitism problem exists – Dorset Eye
