Hundreds of doctors to sue NHS because government PPE failings gave them Long Covid

One MORE time: the PPE used in UK hospitals is pictured bottom right. Hundreds of doctors are now suing the UK government because they say they contracted Long Covid due to the inadequacy of the PPE they were provided.

In a sane country, wouldn’t this be enough reason for a government to take action to recover the millions (billions?) of pounds it wasted on useless Personal Protective Equipment during the Covid-19 crisis?

Hundreds of doctors plan to sue the NHS, claiming a lack of proper PPE left them disabled with Long Covid.

The case centres on an NHS diktat to downgrade the level of masks when the virus took hold. Staff were only required to wear blue surgical masks, plastic aprons and gloves.

They claim they are facing financial ruin and that authorities should have known they were being placed at risk.

The government could recoup a huge amount of money, just by taking action to claw back the money wasted on inadequate PPE.

For example: what about the £203 million given to PPE Medpro, the company pushed through the illegal Tory VIP lane for contracts by Michelle Mone, who’s said to have profited by £65 million from the deal?

That could provide a million quid in compensation for more than 200 doctors with Long Covid.

And its just the tip of the VIP lane iceberg.

Why does the public purse always have to pay for the profligate failures of the government?

London Covid cases highest in the UK as JN.1 variant spreads | Evening Standard

Right after This Site publishes an article raising concerns about the effects of Long Covid, it seems incidents of the latest Covid-19 variant are on the rise in the UK…

London has the highest rate of Covid in England amid the rapid spread of the JN.1 variant, analysis revealed on Thursday.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) estimate that around 6.1% of Londoners had the virus as of December 14, by far the highest proportion of any region.

Prevalence in the capital is three times higher than a month ago, according to the UKHSA’s winter infection survey.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the WHO said they would continue to investigate the variant but that it carried no greater risk of death or hospitalisation.

JN.1 is a subvariant of Omicron, which became the dominant global variant of Covid in winter 2021. It has been found in countries across the world including China, the UK and the United States.

So, not likely to be fatal, then.

But what about those consequences of Long Covid?

Are we ignoring the dangerous effects of Long Covid?

Rampant: the Covid-19 virus is once again on the loose across the UK because the Tories haven’t just lost control; they’ve deliberately thrown it away.

Apparently we should be concerned about excess mortality and declining life expectancy, in young people, that is attributable to Covid-19.

This is to do with Long Covid; apparently there may be a large number of youngsters disabled by Covid, or suffering vascular disease, or dying, in the months after suffering acute Covid.

Here’s epidemiologist Colin Furness:

It’s an interesting question because This Writer doesn’t think it has been asked: what is Covid-19 doing to us now?

And will we be able to find out?

Politicians want people with Long Covid to work. Is it another cull of the sick?

Long Covid: to sufferers, it is a huge burden they have to carry every day. Now politicians on both sides of the political fence want to force them to suffer that burden AND go to work as well, so they don’t have to take migrant workers from abroad. It will be a death sentence.

Politicians in both main political parties want to push sick people back into work – but isn’t that an indictment of the UK’s political response to Long Covid?

Let me explain, with the help of Samuel Miller:

You have to look behind the headlines, behind what the mouthpieces are uttering, in order to understand what they really mean.

Here’s an example:

How about this now-deleted tweet from broadcaster Jeremy Vine?

It attracted a strong response:

The document contains details of people who have died or committed suicide as a result of government mistreatment of their sickness benefit claims in attempts to force them back into work.

Looking at the evidence, and based on my own experience of government policy over the last 20 years (Tory and Labour), This Writer is moved to ask:

Are we looking at the beginnings of another politically-motivated cull of the sick?

Sunak urged to put the sick to work to solve labour crisis

At breaking point: the UK’s National Health Service. Now a former Tory pensions minister thinks it should work harder to make people with short-term conditions (and Long Covid, apparently) fit to rejoin the labour force.

It’s not as bad as it looks… but that depends on what the Tories do – and we know they are ignorant, entitled, and stupid.

It seems Rishi Sunak has been looking at ways of encouraging people aged over 50 to stay in work rather than taking early retirement, to fill the enormous gaps in the UK’s workforce – but this won’t work.

Instead, according to Sir Steve Webb, who served as pensions minister in the coalition government between 2010 and 2015, Sunak should be trying to get sick people back to work.

We’ve been here before, haven’t we?

Fortunately, it seems this isn’t a new drive to kick people with serious life-altering conditions off benefits like ESA, PIP and Universal Credit.

Instead, the idea is to improve NHS treatment times to shorten waiting lists and make people fit for work quicker, rather than leaving them hanging around doing nothing.

There’s just one problem: nurses and ambulance paramedics are striking because current NHS pay and working conditions are so shocking that they can only survive with the help of food banks – meaning it is practically impossible to entice anybody to work there.

That’s a Tory plan, of course – run the NHS down to make privatisation of health care look like a good idea.

Their problem is that it means they can’t solve their workforce problems that way. And the over-50s wheeze is just tinkering at the edges.

We all know that Brexit is responsible for the labour shortage – right? – and that was a Tory policy. The deprecation of the NHS is also a Tory policy.

So the destruction of the UK economy must also be a Tory policy – and one that has been in practise since before the EU referendum in 2016.

Think about that one for a while.

Another idea was to improve care for people with Long Covid, so they recover from this long-term debilitating condition.

Good luck with that, Sunak!

There are no proven cures for the condition and the Tories haven’t exactly been exerting themselves to find one.

In fact, there seems to have been a concerted effort by the Tories to ignore Covid-19 as much as possible.

The most recent statistics show 380 deaths in the week to December 9, while 1.4 million people in the UK have the disease. The total number of deaths is now 210,837 – and that’s according to figures that few people now trust.

Hospital admissions in the UK apart from Scotland, up to December 15, stood at 6,244, up from 4,645 the previous week, and continuing an upward trend.

Still, out of sight is out of mind, right? Statistics covering the growth rate of the various will cease to be published in early January because the UK Health Security Agency says we’ve learned to live with it.

Oh, really?

I’d say 380 deaths per week suggests we’ve been taught to learn to die with it.

Has the government announced that July 19 will be ‘Freedom Day’ to catch #LongCovid?

‘Covid Boris’: this satirical image was made when Johnson caught the virus in April 2020. He didn’t get Long Covid – and you can bet that he

According to the BBC’s Panorama, 33,000 children are suffering with Long Covid. Didn’t the government tell us children didn’t get Covid-19?

Wow. 33,000 children sentenced to lose an undetermined length of their life because the government they didn’t even elect is incompetent – or, worse, intended to harm them.

And some of you, reading this, will argue that it doesn’t even exist. It is this kind of ignorance that gives Boris Johnson the space to inflict the damage.

In fact, it does exist. It does harm people continually over a period of months and years. There is no established treatment for it because it is a new disease and the causes of the symptoms it produces are not known.

And thanks to more than 10 years of Tory defunding – because they want to privatise the NHS – the health service does not have the capacity to research Long Covid, let alone treat it.

According to Lucy Adams, in the programme, many thousands of people are likely to be off work for years, with a huge knock-on impact on the UK’s society, economy and culture.

Why does Boris Johnson want that?

Why has he decided to remove social distancing restrictions just as infections of a new, more virulent strain of Covid-19 are increasing exponentially?

He says he wants the country to get back to normal but the decision to end restrictions now is – according to the scientists from SAGE – definitely going to put more people in hospital, give more people Long Covid, and send more people to their graves.

And Johnson knows this.

He is deliberately crippling the UK for years to come.
