Cassetteboy’s Glasto vid reminds us number of PMs since last year is ‘tragic’

Today (Monday, July 3, 2023), it is raining. Cheer yourself up:

Feel better?

I hope so, because this week’s going to be a long one.

Stop the what, Rishi? We’ve just seen your footwear: STOP THE BOOTS!

A big mistake by Rishi Sunak has led to his greatest – possibly only – contribution to UK culture…

And it’s sartorial.

You see, it turns out that he has shockingly bad taste in footwear.

The boots he’s been wearing are … a feast for the eyes, and when he was filmed wearing them on a channel patrol before giving a speech about his “Stop the Boats” policy, well… the public response was predictable:

For those who wonder why there are always attempts to limit the reach of social media posts: it’s because of things like this.

April fool? Political jokes on THAT day of the year

Rishi Sunak and the Tories: the biggest political April Fool of this or any other year is the fact that they are (allegedly) running the country.

Way back when I was working on the old Bristol Journal, we used to put out a special supplement on the week of April Fool’s Day, with stories suggesting the former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was now living in a flat in Hartcliffe, and the annual Balloon Fiesta was now to be restricted to the then defunct Avon House, former home of Avon County Council.

Do newspapers still do that?

I’ve found a few examples of the same thing online…

… at least, I think they’re April Fools.

Have you found any fun ones? Please let me know in the comments.

Something for the weekend? A comment on Labour’s open-door policy for right-wingers

Is this really a joke?

After Keir Starmer’s party readmitted Angela ‘Funny Tinge’ Smith, Mike ‘Trot Off’ Gapes and Luciana ‘Antisemitism accusations against my own constituency party members’ Berger, it would be easy to believe it has accepted an application from ‘Hatey’ Katie Hopkins.

This Site has, for many years, refused to acknowledge her existence but this was such low-hanging fruit it was impossible to ignore it.

Needless to say, I shall continue ignoring her existence in the future.

Now you can put Boris Johnson in any situation – even a party if you like

He’s so lonely: Boris Johnson was snubbed by world leaders at Nato and now he’s a greenscreen scream.

Kudos to the genius who took footage of Boris Johnson looking uncomfortable as he stood, ignored by other guests at a Nato summit, waiting to be officially greeted.

The original material went viral last week, although it was pointed out that the images were out-of-context as an extended version did show other attendees meeting him.

But now YOU can help Boris Johnson meet… well, anybody you like, courtesy of comedian Matthew Highton:

Some folks have already had a go:

But these are just a few of the masterpieces we’ve seen so far.

If you’ve got the capability, why not try making one yourself?

Tory spring conference opens floodgates for satire

It seems Boris Johnson’s only success at the Conservative spring conference was as the butt of a series of satirical comments.

He enraged people by comparing Ukraine’s battle for freedom with the vote in which 17 million people dragged the rest of the UK’s 68 million population into Brexit. Doesn’t work, does it?

Some of us got our own back by posting images on the social media – and they’re worth seeing.

Besides the pic above, here are a few more.

If you’ve spotted any, please send them in.

This one isn’t connected to the conference but is too good not to publish:

Rishi Sunak’s blue-screen speech dealt the Tories their just desserts

Sunak (left): he has now distanced himself from “Tweedledumber” on the right – but he won’t avoid public opinion while he remains a member of Johnson’s failed government.

This is what you get if you insist on being part of a national government that has caused nothing but harm.

Rishi Sunak – the Chancellor of the Exchequer – broadcast a speech about the cost of living crisis that the Tories have triggered (if we only had the energy price rises to handle, it wouldn’t be too bad – but we have to cope with Sunak’s Tory tax rises as well).

He also spoke about the damaging departure of Boris Johnson’s advisor Munira Mirza.

But he did it all in front of a blue screen. Big mistake.

Here’s what comedian Sooz Kemper did with it:

She hit the nail on the head. And even Sunak probably knows it.

Sisters strike gold with TikTok #video mocking #Tory #DowningStreetParty

This is how Boris Johnson’s career ends – in mocking laughter.

That’s what sisters Tabby and Chloe -who perform as Sugar Coated Sisters – are discovering after they made a TikTok video mocking Johnson and his Christmas party-going pals.

It’s a rewritten version of S Club Party by S Club 7 – and at the time of writing it has racked up 289,000 likes and a massive 2.2 million views.

Let’s give it a few more:

The #UK’s going to Hell but at least we can #laugh about it

He’s a clown: but many people fear clowns…

I don’t know about you, but This Writer is seeing a noticeable increase in humorous posts about current political affairs.

I guess people have realised that they can’t do anything about all the horrible things the Tories are doing that they might as well try to have a few kicks while they can.

So, after Dominic Raab demonstrated his stupidity on live TV by telling us the police don’t investigate crimes retrospectively, and then admitted that a party had taken place at Downing Street during lockdown, in breach of all the rules…

…a sub-editor at the Star came up with this:

Nice one!

On another tack, a Twitter user pointed out a curious correspondence between the Tory attitude to the Downing Street party and Labour’s attitude to putting its own house in order:

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson joined a police drugs raid to publicise his clampdown on anybody who does drugs but isn’t in the government:

… and everybody had a field day:

Of course the sharpest comments are those that aren’t humorous – just true:

Clocks to go back tonight – but how far?

There seems to be some confusion.

British Summer Time ends this evening, meaning we all have to turn our clocks back by a certain amount of time.

The question is: how long?

Alternatively…

So most of us can put our clocks back an hour as usual.

Brexiteers can put them back to 1972.

Conservatives to 1953.

Fetishists to 1941 (do you think they meant Fascists?).

UKIPpers to 1932.

Jacob Rees-Mogg gets a choice between 1802 and 1741.

And Nigel Farage gets to demand that the clocks go back where they came from.

Make your choice, folks!
