Tory underfunding means 1.2 MILLION people are waiting for vital NHS treatment

Waiting for treatment: thanks to Tory policies, 1.2 million people are being made to wait for vital treatments and operations.

This is the flipside of the Tory plan to give £2 billion to private health firms for non-essential health procedures.

They give £200 million to the privateers’ bank accounts and it isn’t available for brain surgery, cataract treatment and gynaecology – among other vital work.

And the waiting list grows.

This was a conscious choice, made by Tory leaders years before anybody dreamed of a crisis like Covid-19.

They wanted to starve the NHS of cash and resources in order to nudge patients and the general public into the false belief that a socialised medical service can’t possibly work.

(In fact, a system in which everybody pays into a national health scheme is the only way everybody can benefit from affordable health care. Privatised or insurance-based schemes are always either too expensive for most people to afford, meaning they have to live with – and sometimes die with – preventable health problems, or they are rip-offs designed to take cash from gullible punters.)

They didn’t – and don’t – care that people are suffering, and may die, because of their privatisation push, that is not based on fact but on fanatical right-wing ideology.

The long and the short of it is that, if you are waiting months and years for vital treatments and operations, to the point where it is causing you pain and/or even endangering your life, there is a reason.

It is because Conservatives like health secretary Sajid Javid, former health secretary Matt Hancock, and prime minister Boris Johnson – along with all the other Tory government ministers going back to 2010 – wanted you to suffer; wanted your life to be in danger.

If you know anybody who voted Tory, they voted for you to suffer in this way.

And for those of you who actually voted Conservative yourself: what were you thinking? That’s actual self-harm.

Man with worsening brain injuries has benefits slashed while Duncan Smith gets a knighthood [VIDEO]

You’re probably sick and tired of me banging on about the way the Tory government has been persecuting the sick and disabled – so I’ll hand you over to one of the victims.

Andy Nicholson runs a video blog under the alias ‘The Brain Damaged Baron’.

Doctors pronounced him lucky to survive a head-first fall down a partially-built stairwell in 1994.

The incident left him with a serious brain injury that means he is partially-sighted, has short-term memory loss, constant headaches, epilepsy and coordination issues, along with chronic fatigue.

These conditions have worsened over time but the Tories have twice pronounced him fit for work, in spite of medical evidence and, indeed, a court order.

Here he is to explain for himself:

It’s powerful stuff; it shows that the Department for Work and Pensions, under the Conservatives, is determined to gaslight people into accepting an unreasonable view that brain injuries can be healed, just because an unqualified assessor says so.

These people have to suffer their way through unnecessarily-complicated appeal procedures, simply to keep the small amount of money they need to survive.

Meanwhile, the man who made to possible for this government department to lie so blatantly and brutally, simply for the sake of holding on to a few farthings, has been awarded a knighthood.

If you live in the UK, you live in a crazed, corrupt country. And if you voted Tory – count yourself among the crazies.

Dying man told ‘get a job’ as DWP denies him any benefits

A terminally-ill man undergoing exhausting treatment for a brain tumour has been told to get a job by a heartless Department for Work and Pensions, as it refused to put him on Universal Credit.

Michael McLalland, 60, was diagnosed with a tumour on the right side of his brain while on holiday in Canada in July.

Despite being told he had only nine months to live and undergoing radiotherapy every day, bureaucrats at the DWP told the former taxi driver he did not qualify for Universal Credit or Employment and Support Allowance.

He had to give up work because his medical condition means he cannot drive. And he has been told he cannot claim his pension either, according to the Daily Record.

Now he has to deal with a constant barrage of letters from the government department, many of which are written in language so opaque it is impossible to understand.

And all this is on top of the fact that Mr Mclelland is the father of Paisley murder victim Craig McLelland, who was stabbed to death in 2017, and has spent two years seeking justice for his son.

He seems to think he’ll get Personal Independence Payments but I have doubts about that.

There is a system by which people with terminal illnesses receive the benefit if they are expected to die within six months but the DWP also has a history of denying this to people in need.

The DWP would say it is only following orders – in the same way that World War II German soldiers said they were only following orders.

I tend to agree with ‘Robin Red’, below, who was writing about the death of another DWP victim:

He’s right but our Tory government is too busy to pay any attention.

It is hard at work pursuing its modernised ‘Aktion T4’ policy to kill the sick and disabled.

DWP stops PIP for mum with brain cancer – because she isn’t dying fast enough?

Here’s yet another abuse of the benefit system by the organisation responsible for it.

The Department for Work and Pensions has stopped paying Personal Independence Payments of £140 per week to a mother with terminal brain cancer, because she has managed to survive for longer than expected.

Kathy Hill, of Buxton, was diagnosed as having a Grade Four brain tumour in 2017 and was given between six months and a year to live.

But she defied doctors’ expectations, surviving much longer alongside her son and their dog who, between them, are her stated reasons for continuing to live.

Unfortunately it seems the DWP has decided she has survived too long, and cancelled her PIP payments in August. She has been left to survive on Universal Credit and now says she feels housebound.

The DWP provides PIP to people under special rules if they have a terminal condition and their death can be “reasonably expected” within six months.

In this case, the government department said the award was cancelled because a reassessment showed her prognosis had changed.

But she is still expected to die of the cancer that she has.

It seems that, by cancelling the cash that helps motivate her, the DWP is trying to speed her on her way.
