Would the Tories REALLY call a snap election if Theresa May’s ‘Chequers plan’ was voted down?

Theresa May: Will Brexit bring her down?

The Sunday Times called This Writer a Holocaust denier, so we can’t trust its news-reporting skills at all.

It seems unlikely that Mrs May would call a snap election if she lost the vote on the ‘Chequers plan’ – she is far too desperate to keep power for its own sake.

And Emily Thornberry called for a general election if the plan failed at the vote, during the BBC’s new Politics Live show yesterday (September 3). If anything can be guaranteed to put Mrs May off the idea, that would.

The same show also discussed the People’s Vote campaign for a new referendum.

But its conclusions seem pointless as Mrs May has point-blank refused to entertain the possibility.

So, based on her record she’ll probably announce either a fresh referendum or a snap election immediately after a loss on the ‘Chequers plan’, then.

Theresa May’s aides have discussed a snap general election if her Brexit plan fails, it has been reported.

The Prime Minister’s political team spoke with civil servants about whether to call an election if her Chequers deal is voted down in the House of Commons, according to the Sunday Times.

It came as the Prime Minister ruled out a second EU referendum in her strongest terms yet.

The PM has been rattled by the success of the People’s Vote campaign to reverse Brexit.
