Rishi Sunak calls for police clampdown on Armistice Day anti-war ‘Million Man March’

So much for free speech in the UK, then.

Rishi Sunak has called for the Home Secretary and police to spit on everything the servicepeople commemorated on Remembrance Day died to defend.

He has been informed that, after 500,000 people marched in support of the innocent people of Gaza who are being murdered on a daily basis by Israeli war crimes last Saturday (October28), another march is being arranged, to take place on November 11, which it is hoped a million people will attend.

For those who can’t read images, he said:

“To plan protests on Armistice Day is provocative and disrespectful, and there is a clear and present risk that the Cenotaph and other war memorials could be desecrated, something that would be an affront to the British public and the values we stand for.

“The right to remember, in peace and dignity, those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for those freedoms must be protected.

“I have asked the Home Secretary to support the Met Police in doing everything necessary to protect the sanctity of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.”

What utter – insulting – twaddle.

Sunak is disrespecting every single man or woman who died in war with those words, and here’s why:

Armistice Day and Remembrance Day commemorate people who died to protect our freedoms – including the freedom to protest against war.

The honoured dead who we remember on those days fought to end war, and prohibiting an event calling for the end of a war is the gravest insult to their memory that anybody could commit – especially a serving UK prime minister.

He suggests that the cenotaph and other war memorials may be desecrated, and that preventing the possibility of this should rank higher than permitting the British people to express their right to free speech. This alone contradicts the very reason those memorials exist; it denies their reason for existing in the first place.

If the safety of a piece of rock is more important to Sunak than the freedom – the right to free speech – of the British people, then he is spitting on the graves of everybody commemorated by that rock, who died to protect that freedom.

If their purpose has been forgotten – as he seems to have done – then perhaps they should be torn down altogether and replaced with something that makes the original purpose more clear – even to the likes of Sunak.

He mentions “those freedoms” for which “those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice” fought – but doesn’t even bother to admit what they are, because if he did, he would not be able to justify the draconian response he is planning.

I fear that he is being deliberately provocative. But if he wants a confrontation, it will only show that the UK’s leaders have lost their way and must be removed.

The Coronation is bringing out the worst in SOME Britons

King Charles: does he really think people should be forced to seem happy, under threat of arrest if they display … alternative viewpoints?

I don’t know about you, but I’m already fed up with having jolliness forced on me because of the Coronation.

It isn’t because I’m an anti-monarchist; my attitude to the Monarchy is primarily indifference.

No, it’s because the occasion has brought out all the officious types who want to tell us what to do and how to feel.

So I agree with the sentiment below – although, like Wolfie, I’ve no idea who crystallised it.

For those who can’t read images, it states: “”Dear rest of the world.

“Don’t be fooled by any propaganda you see coming out of the UK this weekend. The mood here is not jubilant, it is sour. England is a fascist nightmare, where there are more food banks than branches of McDonalds. We don’t want pageantry, we want affordable food, and rent, and bills. The timing of this coronation, with all its gold and bejewelled opulence, couldn’t be more distasteful and sickening. It’s unjustifiable and it’s unwanted. If we’re asking God to save anyone it should be the 14.4 million people living in poverty, not the King.”

Needless to say, the comment has been disputed – by people who want to impose a happy mood on the rest of us.

I don’t think anyone should bother protesting against the coronation, though. There’s no point, with the fascist Public Order Act now in force and police empowered to arrest anyone expressing a dissenting point of view in public. Here’s an example of them using their new powers to do just that:

The Metropolitan Police have already said they are running a “multi-layered” security operation that includes “managing crowds” and “carrying out searches”, with “low” “tolerance” for “disruption”:

And they have the full support of some highly dubious public figures.

Here’s one:

I mean, wow.

Last I heard, even after the Public Order Act, here in the UK it is a principle of justice that someone has to actually commit a crime before they can be jailed.

And here’s another: prime minister Rishi Sunak once criticised the Chinese government for refusing to listen to protesters in that country, but apparently he thinks only people in foreign countries should pay any attention to protest; anyone taking issue with whatever’s going on in the UK now clearly needs to suffer a “clampdown”.

So, even though most of us have been driven into poverty by the Establishment that is propping up the Monarch, even though there will be “low tolerance” for anyone pointing this out and the police will be on hand to make sure we do as we’re told, and even though the money being spent on this event would be better-used helping the long-suffering people of the UK to survive…

We’re all supposed to be happy? Or else?

I’m not sure I can manage that.

14 years in jug for embarrassing the government? Patel is crossing from fascism to Nazism

This is a Nazi-style bid to turn our newspapers into propaganda sheets.

(And let’s be honest – most of them are more than halfway there already.)

The big surprise about the story is that it has been broken by the Daily Heil!

According to that rag, Priti Patel – for it is her again – has been consulting on a plan to change the Official Secrets Act in order to remove protections for reporters who are handed leaked documents that may embarrass the Tory government.

The Act’s provisions are intended to protect the UK against agents of foreign governments. Attacking UK-based journalists is clearly a perversion of such legislation but Patel won’t be worried about that.

The Mail‘s story states:

Under a consultation run by Priti Patel’s Home Office, which closes later this week, reporters who handle leaked documents would not have a defence if charged under new laws designed to clamp down on foreign agents.

There’s been a consultation? And it closes in a matter of days? This must be one of those fake consultations that the Tories do all the time – they claim to have been consulting while deliberately not telling anybody about it.

Human rights organisations and the Law Commission, which drew up the proposals, say there should be a ‘public interest defence’ included to prevent the prosecution of journalists who receive leaked documents.

But in a paper released for the consultation, the Home Office said such a move would ‘undermine our efforts to prevent damaging unauthorised disclosures, which would not be in the public interest’.

Who says what’s in the public interest and what isn’t? Usually it’s the courts, in cases of serious disagreement – but the power of the courts is being curbed in new Tory legislation so Patel is effectively giving the Tories ultimate power over the press.

This Writer won’t be affected, though. I may comment on what it means when the contents of leaked documents are published but I don’t receive those documents so I can’t publish them.

Tough luck, Patel! You might turn your supporters in the mainstream media against you but you won’t get critics like Vox Political.

Did Boris Johnson delay social gathering clampdown so that St Leger horse races can take place?

Dido Harding: Corrupt?

Is it really a coincidence that Boris Johnson’s new clampdown on social gatherings involving more than six people is to be imposed on Monday, allowing the St Leger horse racing festival to take place first?

Is it a coincidence that the St Leger is organised by the Jockey Club, which counts among its directors Dido Harding – who also happens to be in charge of the Serco (not NHS) Test and Trace fiasco?

Would it be more accurate to say that Ms Harding’s priority is the racing track, rather than Track and Trace?

People on Twitter certainly have their opinions about this:

While we’re discussing Test/Track/Trace, let’s remind ourselves that UK citizens have been forced to traipse around the country trying to get tests, as the Serco-run system for which Ms Harding is responsible has been unable to provide enough – even though (I hear on PMQs) 75,000 test kits are wasted every day.

Why isn’t Ms Harding doing the rounds of the studios explaining why we should not attribute the delay of the social gathering lockdown to her own corruption?
