Did you have any idea who Matthew Offord is, before today?
Here’s a hint:
Matthew Offord, who is trying to cancel Alexei Sayle was one of a group of MPS who petitioned Downing St trying to make it illegal to call Israel an apartheid state at UK universities. Dont be like Matthew. Stand up to Racism #IStandWithAlexeiSayle

The Matthew Offord who's trying to cancel Alexei Sayle is the MP in this story:https://t.co/aeybqSPhID

He’s also a Conservative Friend of Israel.
We have learned that Mr Offord has written to the Director General of the BBC to demand that he cancel the broadcast of an episode of Desert Island Discs featuring Alexei Sayle.
According to that paragon of balanced reporting, the Jewish News, he wrote that every broadcaster “should be wary of giving a platform to anyone who is seen to be excusing antisemitism. ”
In that case, there’s every reason to allow the programme to go ahead because Sayle hasn’t done anything of the sort.
While it isn’t impossible to be in such circumstances and still be an anti-Semite, Sayle is Jewish himself.
Why has Offord taken this step?
Well, it could be because of some or all of the following:

Right before the weekend, he had this to say about the Israel-Palestine situation:

Mr Offord’s demand has met with a growing wave of resistance, including the following:
Don’t you dare come for Scouse Jews! Alexei is an amazing man! #IStandWithAlexeiSayle

#IStandWithAlexeiSayle brilliantly talented comedian and brave critic of the status quo. They better not cancel his Dessert Island disc slot on the ground he is antisemetic cos some right wing nut jobs think he should be silenced!

Sadly, it seems Offord has won the support of a number of Labour MP (who should be ashamed of themselves). Is it because of this?
— Teri ⚫️♿️🇵🇸 (@MettlesomeTeri) May 19, 2021
Well, it hasn’t gone unnoticed:
The amount of Labour representatives tweeting support for a Tory MP trying to have a Jewish comedian deplatformed from public life and essentially blackballed by British radio and TV, for supporting Palestine is scary.
What is happening under Keir Starmer's "new management"?
— Daniel Grigg (@Daniel_Grigg) May 19, 2021
Taking it as a whole, I think Melissa Morrigan tweets for us all – albeit in VERY strong language:
Tory MP shitbag Matthew Offord is trying to get Jewish Antiracist comedian Alexei Sayle no platformed for supposedly 'excusing Antisemitism'. They're doing the same shit to Alexei as they did to Corbyn. Smearing and cancelling. Fuck this Tory guy… #IStandWithAlexeiSayle

So far, the BBC is sticking to its own guns, saying that the show will be broadcast as normal:
The brilliant Alexei Sayle is on @BBCRadio4’s ‘Desert Island Discs’ this Sunday (23rd May) at 11:00am.
Tune in & give it a listen; know already it’ll be a fab episode. https://t.co/YDSvzhcBIl

Will Auntie hold on to her backbone all the way to Sunday? Let’s hope so.
