Tory cut killing UK’s only centre to stop Female Genital Mutilation is in line with Priti Patel’s behaviour

Irony: the posters behind Priti Patel in this image extol the virtues of ‘UK aid’ – but her idea of helping foreigners is sending them away to suffer genital torture, and her party’s is to cut funding to organisations working to stop it happening here.

Remember when This Site told you Priti Patel wanted to deport a girl so that she could be subjected to the barbaric practice of female genital mutilation (FGM)?

Maybe you thought I must be wrong. Maybe you thought that a UK government would never allow a human being to be put in danger of suffering torture to their private parts. I mean, we’re a civilised country, right?

Think again.

You may also have missed the announcement that the Conservative government has withdrawn its funding for the UK’s only centre dedicated to ensuring that FGM doesn’t happen in this country.

Oh yes – it does happen here.

The Tories are just making sure that there’s no support for any group dedicated to stopping it.

“Ending FGM will not happen if the centre closes down just five years after being set up by the government,” protested Leethen Bartholomew, who leads the National FGM Centre.

“We will not be there to protect the girls who need us. We know that FGM is still being practised in communities across England.

“There are still girls who are being cut and so will face a lifetime of physical and emotional pain. It is a hidden form of child abuse.”

Tories seem to love causing physical and emotional pain. Priti Patel more than most.

And now maybe you think that comment is uncalled-for. If you do, think again – and start judging these Tories by their actions.

More Tory racism: Priti Patel wanted to deport girl so she could be subjected to genital mutilation

Irony: the posters behind Priti Patel in this image extol the virtues of ‘UK aid’ – but her idea of helping foreigners is sending them away to suffer genital torture.

Dept of calling-a-spade-a-shovelling-instrument: this decision shows that Priti Patel wanted to send a girl away to have her genitals cut – because her victim is of Sudanese origin.

Ms Patel refused to grant asylum to the girl – aged just 11 – in the knowledge that she would be returned to an area of Sudan where the prevalence of female genital mutilation (FGM) is 97.7 per cent.

The mother’s claim for asylum was rejected after Home Office officials deemed she lacked credibility. But it later transpired through family court proceedings she was a reliable – albeit highly traumatised – witness.

The girl, who is thriving at school and only speaks English, was brought to the UK in 2012 by her mother, herself a victim of what is known as type 3 FGM whose two sisters died after being cut in their native Sudan.

The single mother, who brought her daughter to Britain to protect her from FGM, exhausted her appeal rights in 2018 and was given notice of the family’s removal to Bahrain where they lived before coming to the UK.

The day before she was due to board a plane, Suffolk county council obtained an FGM protection order, preventing the girl’s departure.

Court documents explain the family were likely to be directed from Bahrain, where their citizenship has expired, back to Sudan. They are from North Kordofan state where the prevalence of FGM is 97.7%. Three of the girl’s cousins are known to have been cut.

After a series of hearings, the Family Court ruled that the girl and her mother should be allowed to remain in the UK.

But Patel launched an appeal claiming that the immigration court’s risk assessment of overseas FGM – “that there was no substantial grounds for believing there was a real risk” – should have been the starting point in the family court.

A Court of Appeal judge found the home secretary “misses the point” because assessing risk is different in the family court where the child’s welfare is central to inquiries – rather than simply being the dependent of an adult making a claim.

The Home Secretary’s – costly – legal challenge was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on June 15.

Charlotte Proudman, a barrister on the mother’s legal team, has accused the Home Office of hypocrisy in digging its heels in over the case and says its unwillingness to protect the girl makes a mockery of FGM protection orders, designed to stop those at risk being taken abroad.

Proudman, who specialises in cases of gender-based violence, said: “It is appalling and shameful the home secretary is wasting taxpayers’ money to score points around policy yet amid the political jostling is prepared to risk the effective torture of this girl.

“With one hand the department is pursuing FGM prosecutions in Britain. With the other it is sending girls abroad to get cut, simply because they are not British.”

“It is sending girls abroad to get cut, simply because they are not British.”

That’s racism. That’s Priti Patel. That’s the Conservative government. And it’s also the British way – which is why the Black Lives Matter movement is so important.

Lib Dems made many vows during their conference. This shows how trustworthy they’ll be

This bird is dead – as dead as any reputation for honesty the Liberal Democrats may have once had.

This investigation by Koser Saeed of Spotlight Newspaper UK on Facebook speaks for itself.

But just in case you need the result of the evidence spelt out for you: The Liberal Democrats spent months promising to act on Female Genital Mutilation, then voted against a law to do just that.

You can be sure they’ll treat their resolutions at this year’s party conference with the same cavalier insincerity.

Childish Chope blocks anti-FGM bill because he doesn’t know any better

Christopher Chope: He seems to think he should have the right to treat women’s genitals in any way he chooses – without any interest in what their owner might want.

How do you solve a problem like Christopher Chope?

The Conservative MP for Christchurch says he blocks private members’ Bills in Parliament because he doesn’t approve of them – but his behaviour in stopping a Bill safeguarding women against female genital mutilation (FGM) was against the wishes of his own prime minister and government.

Here’s Mrs May, discussing FGM on Twitter on February 6:

He is therefore putting his own narrow-minded attitude before the wishes of his government, his party, Parliament and the nation as a whole. That isn’t principle – it’s egotism.

One has to ask whether he would object if he knew somebody who had been subjected to this form of permanent bodily mutilation himself – or if it was a kind of torture to which he himself might have been subjected if he was unlucky enough to have been born into a culture that supported such barbarity.

Considering his previous objection to a Bill that would have prevented upskirting – the practice of pointing cameras up women’s skirts in order to take images of their underwear or genitals – one is drawn to conclude that he has an unhealthy interest in preventing women from protecting their private parts.

This Writer first heard about FGM in high school, and the thought of it turned my stomach. I don’t understand how anybody could possibly object to a law that would allow courts to issue protection orders if a woman was at risk of being subjected to it. There is no medical justification for FGM and the procedure violates the human rights of women and girls, according to the World Health Organisation.

But Mr Chope (he was awarded a knighthood by Theresa May last year, but it was for no very good reason and his behaviour does not justify any acknowledgement of it) seems to think he knows better. He doesn’t; his attitude belongs in the Dark Ages.

Now, measures to prevent FGM will have to be included in a government Bill, meaning a delay in which more women and girls may be forced to undergo genital mutilation.

Will Mr Chope accept responsibility for their pain and humiliation? If not, perhaps any such victims should take out a private prosecution against him.

Public opinion is certainly not with him – although that won’t bother this pig-headed individual in the slightest:

He is, as one might expect from a Tory, perfectly happy to support his government’s wishes when it harms the many and helps the few, as his Parliamentary voting record shows:

So perhaps we should simply accept that he blocked the Bill against FGM because this principled man believes in the principle behind FGM: That those with power are entitled to do anything they like with those who have none – and do all we can to remove this dinosaur, and his prehensile principles, from Parliament at the earliest opportunity.

Tory MP objected to female genital mutilation being stopped and everybody chose an appropriate word to describe him

Christopher Chope: His obsession with female genitalia has earned him a nickname which, like his real names, also begins with a ‘C’.

It begins with ‘C’ but it isn’t ‘Christopher’ and it isn’t ‘Chope’ either.

Yes indeed – Christopher Chope has struck again. The man who killed a proposed law to ban “upskirting” has now blocked a Bill that would have made it easier to stop female genital mutilation (FGM) being inflicted on children.

This man has no business dictating what happens to the private parts of females members of the human race – for at least two obvious reasons.

Ironically, he opened his mouth to shout “Object” on the day his fellow Tory, Penny Mordaunt, pledged £50 million to end FGM globally by 2030:

The public response to Mr Chope has been widespread and vitriolic. Below are some of those containing language This Site can publish:

The embarrassment of the people of Christchurch at having elected Mr ‘C’ could not be clearer, as constituents lined up to condemn him and others begged for him to be ousted at the next election:

With Theresa May – and her entire government – on the brink of collapse due to her pathetic bid to negotiate a withdrawal from the EU that will benefit elite Tories and nobody else, it seems the people of Christchurch may have an opportunity to rectify the problem of their errant MP, sooner rather than later.

Let us hope they take it.
