#IStandWithAlexeiSayle goes massive after Tory right-winger tries to have his Desert Island Discs cancelled

Alexei Sayle: he has reason to smile because he’s popular with the general public. Matthew Offord is popular with right-wing Labour MPs who have serious questions to answer about their support for him.

Did you have any idea who Matthew Offord is, before today?

Here’s a hint:

He’s also a Conservative Friend of Israel.

We have learned that Mr Offord has written to the Director General of the BBC to demand that he cancel the broadcast of an episode of Desert Island Discs featuring Alexei Sayle.

According to that paragon of balanced reporting, the Jewish News, he wrote that every broadcaster “should be wary of giving a platform to anyone who is seen to be excusing antisemitism. ”

In that case, there’s every reason to allow the programme to go ahead because Sayle hasn’t done anything of the sort.

Mr Offord’s demand has met with a growing wave of resistance, including the following:

Sadly, it seems Offord has won the support of a number of Labour MP (who should be ashamed of themselves). Is it because of this?

Well, it hasn’t gone unnoticed:

Taking it as a whole, I think Melissa Morrigan tweets for us all – albeit in VERY strong language:

So far, the BBC is sticking to its own guns, saying that the show will be broadcast as normal:

Will Auntie hold on to her backbone all the way to Sunday? Let’s hope so.
