Boris Johnson’s ‘man of the people’ act fails yet again in England rugby debacle

Fail: Boris Johnson tweeted support for England when the team was certain to lose – and what’s he doing wearing a business shirt under his England rugby shirt? Weirdo.

If Boris Johnson wins a general election after performances like this, then we’ll know Charles Walker was right when he said the vote would be ‘fixed’.

At 10.45am today (November 2), he tweeted his support for the England rugby squad, with an image of him watching the match while wearing an England shirt.

There were several things wrong with it.

Principal among these was the fact that England had already lost the match. South Africa had pulled so far ahead that it seemed (and proved) impossible to regain the lost ground.

Secondly, this weirdo who wants us to keep him on in the UK’s top job had pulled his England shirt over a business shirt. Either he had been told to put it on for the publicity pic or he can’t dress himself properly. You choose.

It follows a tweet yesterday evening (November 1) in which he was actually wearing a tie under the rugby shirt, so I think the latter assumption must be accurate and he can’t dress himself.

Pauline Lane had a different idea:

More cutting was the response by actor John Gordon Sinclair to Mr Johnson’s video message of support for the England team, as delivered by ITV News:

Some were more direct in their comments:

And John Lewis Rosewarne suggested: “Time to dust off the pictures of The Charlatan Prime Mendacater Bullying Coward pushing over a small boy “playing” touch rugged. Or did I dream that one? Japan?”

Why not?

Troubled Universal Credit expansion continues

130905universalcredit

The worst-performing and least adaptable benefit in the history of welfare is expanding to new areas as Iain Duncan Smith steps up his bid to hobble the welfare state permanently, before another government can take office and fix it.

Universal Credit will be available to families for the first time in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Wigan, Oldham, Hyde, Stalybridge, Stretford, Altrincham, Southport, Crosby, Bootle, Preston, Leyland, Prestwich, Bury, Eccles, Worsley, Huyton, Kirkby, St Helen’s, Newton-le-Willows, Hammersmith, Bath, Rugby, Shotton, Harrogate and Inverness.

Vox Political sends out particular sympathies to benefit claimants in Ashton-Under-Lyne, whose Job Centre causes particular problems as chronicled in the blog The poor side of life.
