Now we have proof that Western leaders are trying to hide Israel’s war crimes

Rishi Sunak and Benjamin Netanyahu: Sunak has refused to admit that the shooting (to death) of a Palestinian non-combatant under a white flag by an IDF sniper was a war crime. Can you think of a reason for him to say that?

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands has been caught admitting that Israel has committed war crimes against the people of Gaza – and trying to hide the fact.

It seems Dutch government officials were responsible for leaking his comments. Will others follow their example? It seems they have a duty to do so, according to journalist Jonathan Cook:

In fairness, Mark Rutte is not the only one trying to save Israel’s face. Watch this bare-faced genocide apologist trying to talk down a war crime that we all saw committed on camera, as witnessed by an ITV news crew:

I note that UK prime minister Rishi Sunak had already defended Israel, according to Robert Peston. Where are the UK government officials who will blow the whistle on him?

Finland has already turned against Israel:

And the Israel Defence Force? After broadcasting widely that its troops have been told not to shoot at civilian non-combatants, here’s the IDF… shooting at civilian non combatants:

Also a war crime – and one of the first of which Israel was accused in relation to the Gaza conflict – is the withholding of food, water and energy by an occupier from territory it has occupied.

Apparently Israel is saying the United Nations and Hamas are hindering the distribution of food aid in Gaza. But is that true? No:

Also a war crime is the targeting of non-military facilities like hospitals and the torture or murder of their patients and/or staff. Now watch this:

This is not just about the amount of evidence our politicians need to admit Israel is committing war crimes.

And with the International Court of Justice set to release its decision on whether “interim measures” to stop Israel committing such crimes (or indeed genocide) at midday on January 26, the big question for most of us must be simple:

How much evidence do we need that our politicians are ignoring Israel’s genocide and denying the will of the people?

If the UK’s foreign secretary thinks Israel is committing war crimes, he should say so

David Cameron: what did you just say?

David Cameron always was full of flannel and he’s no different now.

Look at this, from the Torygraph:

Israel may have broken international law in Gaza, Lord Cameron has said, as he called for a humanitarian pause covering the enclave.

The Foreign Secretary said he had seen things regarding the conflict that have been “deeply concerning” and called on Israel to restore water supply to Gaza.

“Am I worried that Israel has taken action that might be in breach of international law, because this particular premises has been bombed, or whatever? Yes, of course,” Lord Cameron said as he took questions from parliament’s foreign affairs committee.

However, the former Prime Minister declined to say whether he had seen any Foreign Office legal advice stating that Israel has breached international humanitarian law in Gaza.

“Declined to say”? He backed away from it as though it was radioactive!

Now look at this:

You might also want to consider this:

It is clear that the UK government knows Israel is indeed committing genocide in Gaza.

Sadly, nobody there wants to admit it.

Spineless? You tell me.

Politicians backtrack fast after court threat over support for Israel

Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak: the accused?

UK government officials could be individually liable for their role in aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes, according to an organisation of lawyers, politicians and academics who aim to protect the rights of Palestinians through the law.

And the warning seems to have cut through – certainly to the Labour front bench, even though it was issued to Rishi Sunak and his Tories.

The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) has written a notice of intention to prosecute UK government officials, for aiding and abetting war crimes in Gaza. Sunak has been issued with the notice of intention to prosecute UK government officials, for their role in providing military, economic and political support to Israel, which has aided Israel’s perpetration of war crimes.

The notice has been handed over to Scotland Yard’s War Crimes Unit, who have requested evidence relating to war crimes in the region – meaning UK government officials could be prosecuted for war crimes by Scotland Yard.

Individuals could also be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court.

A press release from the organisation states:

The decision to prosecute comes in response to Israel’s directive to 1.2 million people in Gaza to immediately leave their homes in northern Gaza and move south. This order will result in mass forced displacement which may amount to both a war crime and a crime against humanity. The siege of Gaza, restricting electricity, food, water and other basic necessities, constitutes collective punishment, which is also a war crime under the Geneva Convention. At the same time, Israel has continued to bombard Gaza with massive and indiscriminate airstrikes, killing over 1,799 people, including 583 children.

The UK government has provided military assistance and economic and political support. Now that war crimes have been carried out, continuation of such support and assistance would mean that UK Government officials would be complicit in the commission of war crimes and potentially crimes against humanity. This complicity, formally known as ‘aiding and abetting’ war crimes, may mean that UK government officials are individually criminally liable for breaking international law.

Now you know why all the politicians in the UK are saying Israel must remain within international law.

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

But the UK has provided aid to Israel, war crimes have taken place, and they are continuing.

Calls for Israel to hold back have fallen on deaf ears – and now it seems that those making them have their own interests at heart, more than those of the people of Gaza.

And this includes the Labour Party:

It’s hard to see how an opposition party can be complicit in war crimes if it is not in a position to provide material aid to the perpetrator.

Still, Starmer’s words have caused considerable distress to the UK’s Muslim population. Perhaps it’s enough that he has been a cheerleader for Israeli war crimes.

This is a story that has the potential to develop in many interesting directions.

Claimant death: A letter to Dame Anne Begg

Dame Anne Begg, chair of the Work and Pensions committee.

Dame Anne Begg, chair of the Work and Pensions committee.

A commenter on yesterday’s article about the death of a claimant at Ashton-Under-Lyne Job Centre raised an important point.

The comment was intended to harshly criticise the piece by misrepresenting it as saying Job Centre staff are responsible for forming government policies. Of course they aren’t – but as human beings with responsibility for their own actions, they may certainly choose whether to carry out those policies. They have personal responsibility for what they do. This means they must also take responsibility for the consequences of their actions.

The response to the commenter was that there is an advisor at Ashton-Under-Lyne Job Centre Plus whose decision led to the death of a claimant and that person must live with the fact for the rest of their life. It is possible they may have to pay a penalty for it (along with those who gave the orders), if some of us get what we want from a future government. If and when that happens, resigning may seem like a much better option.

But that won’t happen at all, if nobody investigates what happens.

Here’s a letter to Dame Anne Begg, chair of the Commons Work and Pensions Committee, asking for that investigation. Perhaps readers of this article may wish to write to their own MP, asking them to support the request. The letter runs as follows:

A blog article of mine about the death of a claimant at Ashton-Under-Lyne Job Centre is gaining widespread attention. The person concerned – who happened to be homeless and to have mental health issues – had his benefits sanctioned by a Job Centre adviser. He then went out onto the streets where he died of hypothermia.

It seems unlikely that this person would have died if his benefits had not been removed. According to the originating article, Job Centre staff used the famous ‘Nuremberg Defence’ that they were “only following orders”.

Personally, I don’t think this is good enough. There is a Job Centre adviser at Ashton-Under-Lyne who is responsible for the death of a claimant – a person over whom they, together with the rest of the DWP and the Coalition Government, had a duty of care.

I think the situation needs to be investigated and the relevant people made to pay a penalty. Do you agree and will you be able to use your position on the Work and Pensions Committee to make this happen?

If DWP staff think they can get away with this, it will happen again and again. Who knows how often it has happened already?

Claimant death: Job Centre staff say “We are only following orders”

Ashton-Under-Lyne Job Centre Plus: Yes, an image of David Cameron looking like a Nazi might have been more striking but the fact is that the evil work carried out in modern Britain takes place behind the most inconspicuous facades - like this.

Ashton-Under-Lyne Job Centre Plus: Yes, an image of David Cameron looking like a Nazi might have been more striking but the fact is that the evil work carried out in modern Britain takes place behind the most inconspicuous facades – like this.

It is striking that this article from The Poor Side of Life reaches us so soon after Vox Political was told that “likening David Cameron to the Nazi party is absolutely incredible and down-right disgusting”. The article’s author writes:

I was stopped by a homeless chap who wanted to congratulate us on our hard work. He said that he hated this Job Centre. His friend who lived on the streets with him had been sanctioned after being taken off the sickness benefits that he was on and was put on Job seekers Allowance. He had severe mental health and addiction problems. He was sanctioned, and without warm clothes and very little food he fell asleep on the streets and never woke up. He died of hypothermia. People had passed him and thought that he was asleep. He didn’t stand a chance. And what do the Job Centre staff say? “We are only following orders.” Most don’t feel any guilt or remorse. And we know that this government doesn’t either.

“We are only following orders.” Isn’t that what the German soldiers at the extermination camps told the war crimes judges at Nuremberg?

Let us await the trial of Ashton-Under-Lyne Job Centre Plus staff with eagerness. In the meantime, there are other stories in the article, so please give it a visit.
