After Keir Starmer’s party readmitted Angela ‘Funny Tinge’ Smith, Mike ‘Trot Off’ Gapes and Luciana ‘Antisemitism accusations against my own constituency party members’ Berger, it would be easy to believe it has accepted an application from ‘Hatey’ Katie Hopkins.
This Site has, for many years, refused to acknowledge her existence but this was such low-hanging fruit it was impossible to ignore it.
Needless to say, I shall continue ignoring her existence in the future.

Wes Streeting: he thinks it’s funny to accuse a Parliamentary colleague of having a serious illness.
Shiny New New Labour poster boy Wes Streeting has apologised for calling Jeremy Corbyn “senile” in Parliament. But is that really enough?
There’s no good video clip of this, it seems. Streeting was caught on a hot mic saying, “He’s gone senile” after Mr Corbyn tried to raise a point of order about Rishi Sunak’s insistence on continuing to tell falsehoods about him during Prime Minister’s Questions.
This is the best available:
Streeting later apologised, saying the comment was made “in jest, but I accept in poor taste”.
He added: “I’ve dropped Jeremy a note directly to apologise for any offence caused.”
But is that really enough?
This is the Shadow Health Secretary using a health-related slur. It not only belittled Mr Corbyn but attacked anybody suffering from dementia.
Mr Corbyn himself pointed this out later. He said he had been “subjected to an appalling and defamatory mental health slur” but accepted the apology.
He also said calling somebody senile was “not funny” and “very serious for people suffering from dementia”.
And he added: “The right thing for somebody in his [Streeting’s] position to do would be to issue a public apology to all those who may have been hurt by his comments.”
Has he done so? Not to This Writer’s knowledge.
And am I right in thinking this may not be the first time people in poor health have been ridiculed by the words of the Shadow Health Secretary?
This is not acceptable – by anyone other than the current Labour Party leader, it seems.

Wes Streeting: for a Shadow Health Secretary, he has a strange attitude to health!
Wes Streeting, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, says the NHS is no longer the envy of the world – but won’t do anything to restore that position.
Instead, he is happy to allow the creeping privatisation that has de-funded the service to remain.
Not only that, but you should hear the health-related insult he has used to refer to Labour members who have been thrown out of the party.

Keir Starmer: he has bored most of us away from Labour and now he wants his boring friends to finish the job if he can’t.
It seems Keir Starmer is determined to steer Labour into disaster – from behind the scenes, if he has to.
After handing in his questionnaire about possible breaches of Covid-19 lockdown rules at an online campaigning event last year, it seems he has contacted the people he sees as potential successors, instructing them to prepare for a leadership contest.
These include Lisa Nandy, Yvette Cooper, and even Wes Streeting. God help the Labour Party if any of them get the top spot!
Apparently he has told friends, “I will not let our hard-won gains be squandered so we will need to be ready in the unlikely event that the worst comes to worst.”
What “hard-won gains”?
Under Starmer, Labour has haemorrhaged party members and, if it hasn’t lost seats, it has certainly failed to gain them. He has struggled to gain even a polling parity with the most overtly corrupt Tory prime minister of our lifetimes.
Starmer’s time as Labour leader has been an abject failure. Any leadership by his anointed successors will certainly continue the trend.
Wes Streeting: it’s all jolly fun in Israel for him.
Apartheid-denier Wes Streeting has been caught in a cleft stick.
He’s currently in Israel on a paid junket, enjoying the hospitality of the right-wing government there that has been inflicting apartheid on the persecuted people of Palestine for many years.
Of course, there’s not a single word of criticism against this cruelty by Labour Friends of Israel member Streeting.
And then a Palestinian reporter was shot in the head by Israeli troops and died – and Streeting had nothing to say about it.
Condemnation has been widespread (where people have been made aware of what happened and of Streeting’s decision to ignore it). Here‘s Skwawkbox‘s take on it:
As the world reeled at horrific footage after [Shireen] Abu Akleh was shot in the head with what appeared to an exploding ‘butterfly’ bullet of the type used by Israeli soldiers, Streeting and LFI posted a string of images of him smiling with Israeli government officials – each of which prompted disgusted responses by Twitter users challenging the appropriateness of the visit and the apparent lack of interest on the part of either Streeting or LFI in condemning the country’s murder of journalists – over fifty in recent years – or reporting on any challenge to the government officials about the actions of their troops.
Visit that site’s story for tweets that are critical of Streeting’s – and Labour’s – response.
But worse was to follow.
At the journalist’s funeral, Israeli forces took it upon themselves to invade the procession and beat the casket-bearers:

This time, Streeting took it upon himself to tweet the sickeningly on-the-fence comment, “Absolutely awful and distressing.”
He didn’t say what was awful and distressing; his comment was carefully-worded to avoid any criticism of the Israeli authorities. Some may say this is because they are his hosts at the moment. Some may say it is because he tacitly supports the violence here. His equivocation lays him open to that.
And that means that Streeting and the Labour Party may now be slammed for failing to condemn this double atrocity – and they have been, as follows:

Labour leader Keir Starmer has had nothing to say for himself about the shocking events – although in fairness he did sum up the courage to retweet a comment by David Lammy:
There must be accountability for the death of Shireen Abu Akleh. These scenes of mourners being beaten are indefensible and only heighten demands for justice and add to her family’s pain. https://t.co/70BK8ub93Y
But it doesn’t add up to the condemnation of Israeli government and armed brutality that the situation requires. Starmer can’t even muster up the courage to admit that Israel is an apartheid state.
The message for people in the UK should be clear.
If Labour can’t take a stand against persecution and brutality in a foreign country, there’s absolutely no way a Labour government will stand against persecution and brutality here in the UK.

The UK’s leaders – on both sides of the political divide – are insane.
With millions of people infected with the Omicron variant (and other variants) of Covid-19 over the Christmas period, many thousands hospitalised, and the National Health Service pushed beyond its limits in attempting to cope, hindsight tells us there should have been a lockdown the instant Omicron was discovered.
But Tory education secretary Nadhim Zahawi – the Tory who infamously claimed public money as expenses so he could heat his stables, interviewed by the BBC’s Sophie Raworth on Sunday morning, attacked Labour’s Wes Streeting for advocating just such an approach!
And – worse still – Streeting then insisted on correcting the record, pointing out that he did not call for a lockdown and posting video evidence to prove it:
How does this make Labour look better?
Streeting just admitted he supported a plan that has killed hundreds of people, hospitalised thousands, and may force millions to live with Long Covid for years to come, while crippling the National Health Service that was created by a previous Labour government.
And Zahawi just admitted that it was Tory policy to cause those hundreds of deaths, hospitalise those thousands of people, infect millions with Long Covid and attack the NHS.
Both the Tories and Labour have disgraced themselves.
Zahawi made matters worse for the Tory government by lying about investment in the NHS, repeating claims about the recruitment of nurses and doctors that were proved to be false, long ago.

Wes Streeting: nice hair – shame about the policies.
Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting has stabbed the NHS in the back by saying a future Labour government would pay private health companies to reduce the Tory-created health treatment backlog.
Organisations within the NHS responded instantly by calling for healthcare workers to join a union and get organised – on the reasonable ground that “saving the NHS isn’t coming out of Westminster.”
Others reacted with fury to Streeting himself:

And his claim that private sector involvement can cut waiting lists has been disproved:

His comment was a betrayal of a key leadership pledge by current Labour leader Keir Starmer. Funny, that – only last week, Starmer said he stood by those pledges, even though he has broken every single one of them since becoming party leader.
One of Keir Starmer’s key leadership pledges was to abolish NHS outsourcing to private companies.
Today Labour announced they would outsource NHS patients to private healthcare providers to cut waiting lists.
Even if they do join trade unions, those unions are being advised to disaffiliate from Starmer’s Tepid Tory Party, in favour of stronger activism in their own right – for a very pertinent and obvious reason:

I’m not saying Alan B’Stard could have been a blueprint for Streeting. But the future the fictional character suggested makes more sense than the Shadow Health Secretary’s fantasy.
Besides, there’s an obvious answer to the provision of NHS healthcare by private firms which is that the UK government should simply take it.
The process is called expropriation. In times of national need (like now), the government may simplytake the required service from the appropriate source, which must provide it.
That would be simple and cost-effective. Ah, but it would upset Wes Streeting’s privatisation-based beliefs, wouldn’t it? Poor baby.

Not communicating: Angela Rayner (left) and Keir Starmer (right… far right) aren’t looking at each other in the image, and it seems there’s not much communication going on elsewhere either.
Keir Starmer has shot himself in the foot – yet again – with a surprise reshuffle timed to upset his deputy, and that gave his critics a chance to pillory him in public.
Angela Rayner was giving a speech at the Institute for Government think tank on lobbying, following up on the Owen Paterson second jobs scandal, when it became clear that Starmer had started reshuffling his top team.
She had known a reshuffle was coming but had not been given any details, meaning she had no details when asked about it.
Instead, she said: “I do know that what we have to do is show that we are a government in waiting and that we have to be the next government because we can’t carry on like this,” she said. We need some consistency in how we’re approaching things as an opposition.”
That could be interpreted as criticism of Starmer’s behaviour.
Of course, as Deputy Leader, elected by the party membership, Rayner is the only senior Labour representative Starmer can’t sack. He should be ensuring that she is always fully-informed but instead he appears to be playing silly games.
At the other end of the spectrum, Starmer did have the power to sack Cat Smith – but she didn’t give him the chance. Instead, she turned down his request for her to remain Shadow Minister for Young People and Democracy, in protest at his mistreatment of Jeremy Corbyn.
“It’s been an honour to serve on the Labour front bench since 2015 but I’m looking forward to spending even more time at home here in Lancashire and standing up for my constituents,” she wrote. “Even more time at home”? Was this a veiled claim to have been excluded?
On Mr Corbyn, she said Starmer’s position was “utterly unsustainable” and told him: “It is important that you truly understand how much damage this is causing in Constituency Labour Parties and amongst ordinary members, a number of whom are no longer campaigning.”
Mr Corbyn isn’t the only reason people are deserting Starmer. A recent appearance on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show was featured on Channel 4’s Gogglebox – and you can see support for the Labour leader draining away as the segment progressed:

His reshuffle decisions won’t win back any doubters either. Headline appointment was Yvette Cooper, replacing Nick Thomas-Symonds as Shadow Home Secretary.

David Lammy replaced Lisa Nandy as Shadow Foreign Secretary, and Wes Streeting replaced Jonathan Ashworth as Shadow Health Secretary.
A Starmer reshuffle, will anyone bloody notice?
I mean the three names being bandied around have only done exactly as Starmer does – stand for nothing, take no concrete positions on anything, deny ever promising a damn thing & supporting the Tories!
Still, what could we expect from the Labour leader who, we were reminded over the weekend, has put homophobia up with anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, racism in general and sexism as his most clearly-supported policies?

Keir Starmer’s Labour Party has betrayed the people of one of its stronghold cities by allowing one of its shadow ministers to write an article in The Sun, days after the death of a victim of the Hillsborough tragedy that that rag misrepresented so grievously.
And Wes Streeting isn’t even sorry about it (yet). Is it because he’s an out-of-touch Londoner who thinks he’s above the concerns of people in the North?
The Ilford North MP was putting forward the latest part of Starmer’s campaign to turn the clock back to 1997, with a “tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime” attitude that focused on child poverty. But, as one commenter put it, when has any UK political party claimed to be soft on crime?
On Twitter, he said he had written an article in The Sun:

It’s time to get tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime.
This is the Tories’ record. They’re the party of crime and disorder – good for criminals, bad for kids.
Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves then retweeted the announcement, making it clear that this was a move that had been endorsed – hypocritically, but we’ll come to that – by the Labour Party leadership.

While it may once have been true that Labour-leaning voters read The Sun (most of its readership in the 1980s voted Labour and bought it to get angry at the pro-Tory bias it contained), those days are long gone. Dwindling readership means it is now a loss-making minority-interest hack-rag, written by rabid Tories, for rabid Tories.
Those are the voters Wes Streeting wants to attract to Labour.
Labour can happily do without them – and him. He has made his own political preferences abundantly clear:
Not only has Wes Streeting written an article in The S*n, he’s defended it by saying that “voters read the S*n”.
Is Starmer so desperate for voters now that he’s having to appease the readers of arguably the most hateful, racist newspaper in the world?
Remember: The Sun blamed the people of Liverpool for the Hillsborough disaster that killed 96 people, when in fact the responsibility lay with the police. Its editors and publisher (Murdoch) colluded with Margaret Thatcher’s Tory government and the police to push on us a lie that Liverpool fans caused the deaths.
The people of Liverpool have never forgiven Murdoch and his filthy little toilet-paper periodical has been boycotted there ever since. Traditionally, Labour has supported this choice – until now.
That’s a general rule – but it became far more specific this week because Streeting chose to publish his article in the sun only days after the death of Andrew Devine, who became the 97th victim of Hillsborough.

It was an act of phenomenal insensitivity, and arrogance bordering on callousness.

Labour – and left-wing – voices who genuinely seek to represent the people – especially when faced by Establishment lies and corruption – have leapt to condemn Streeting:

Streeting’s monumental insensitivity can possibly be best described by comparing his desire to chum up with the Conservative rag and former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s attitude – which was to have nothing to do with it and to seek to reduce the power and influence of its owner:

And what of the current Labour leader?
Remember above, where I mentioned that Labour’s bosses have endorsed Streeting’s article and it is hypocritical? Here’s the reason: in January last year, during a Labour leadership campaign hustings in – guess where? – Liverpool, Starmer attacked The Sun, saying he wouldn’t be giving any interviews to Murdoch’s rag. However…

… did you spot the “get-out” clause in his speech? He said he wouldn’t be giving any interviews to The Sun “during this campaign”. Labour members in Liverpool – and elsewhere – saw it as support for their campaign – “don’t buy The Sun“. They were all mistaken.
He was only saying it for effect.
He was only saying it to dupe them into voting for him.
And now he is actively courting The Sun‘s (dwindling) readership, via Streeting.

I wonder what good he thinks this highly-visible about-turn will do him – especially at a time when a poll of the British public shows that we want him to resign:

On the basis of this disgusting betrayal, Starmer’s departure – and that of Tory suck-up Streeting – can’t come soon enough.
