Prince Andrew implicated in Jeffrey Epstein case just as accused financier is found dead. Conspiracy theories fly…

There are shades of the old ‘Jack the Ripper’ conspiracy theories about this.

Back in the day, one of the theories about Jack was that the Whitechapel murderer was cleaning up the mess left by an errant member of the Royal Family who had enjoyed the company of ladies of the night, to the point where he managed to get one of them with child (as the saying goes). So a member of the Establishment (or several) was sent out to eliminate this person in a way that would not obviously implicate the royals.

It’s a good story. Who knows?

Today, we learn that financier Jeffrey Epstein, imprisoned on suspicion of supplying under-age girls to perform sex acts on visitors to his Manhattan and Florida mansions, has been found dead in his cell.

By a curious coincidence, today we also learned that Prince Andrew was accused of being a participant in one of these occasions.

Here’s how the BBC described it:

The accusation is contained in documents from a 2015 defamation case.

The court papers were released on Friday, a day before wealthy US financier Epstein was found dead in his prison cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Contained in the defamation case papers is an allegation by a woman called Johanna Sjoberg that Prince Andrew touched her breast while they sat on a couch in Epstein’s Manhattan apartment in 2001.

Buckingham Palace has said that any suggestion of impropriety between Prince Andrew and “underage minors” is “categorically untrue”.

But the demise of Epstein just one day after details of the allegation were released to the public has been like a red rag to certain social media bulls.

“Jeffrey Epstein suicide?” This from Sonia Poulton on Facebook.

“Bit convenient for a man with paedophile links to the rich and famous – from celebrity to royalty – to die in custody.

“The case will die with him because no one else was charged. And that’s the way it goes. That’s how the rich and powerful continue to get away with raping children. No time for polite words.

“I don’t believe this news. He was on suicide watch FFS. Paedophiles & their accomplices lie.”

Political Provocateur (who created the image above) suggested this: “The establishment will do their most to keep the truth behind this well and truly hidden. Was it suicide? I doubt it. If he is dead, you can be sure his body will be cremated quickly without an autopsy to determine the cause of death. There is also a possibility that his death could be staged. People like him with power and money can buy anything – including their freedom.”

“Epstein could have brought down government and monarchy. That’s some big s**t. Despite being on suicide watch he’s dead.”

“BREAKING: Buckingham Palace denies accusations Duke of York once had 10,000 men. More soon …”

“And poor Fergie was left sucking toes..”

“I wonder who his death is down to – the royals or the establishment? I sure as hell don’t believe it was suicide!”

“All files will now be conveniently ‘LOST”!”

It goes on and on.

And I think, like ‘Jack the Ripper’, this case will never be solved to anybody’s satisfaction.

With Epstein’s death, the case against him will be closed. In any case, he’s undoubtedly the only one who knew exactly what happened and who was involved.

Nobody will know the facts. But everybody will have a theory.

New UKIP leader named – and it’s a little bit unfortunate

New leader: The Braine at the head of UKIP.

This is a perfect disaster.

The new leader of UKIP is…

Wait for it…

Dick Braine.

What possesses parents to inflict such cruelty on their children, almost from birth?

We could hope that his political acumen is of a far higher quality than his unfortunate nomenclature.

But then again, he’s in UKIP – so even that hope is probably forlorn.

Richard Braine has been elected as the leader of the UK Independence Party.

In a ballot of members, Mr Braine received 53% of the vote – more than double that of his closest rival.

Mr Braine was the favoured candidate of his predecessor, Gerard Batten, who resigned after UKIP’s poor performance in the European elections in May.

The chairman of the party’s West London branch, he beat Freddy Vachha, who won 20% of the vote, Ben Walker, on 14% and ex-deputy leader Mike Hookem, on 13%.

Shadow cabinet to meet on day before Parliament reconvenes. But is it really to plan an election?

The run-down: If Labour’s shadow cabinet is meeting in Salford only to plot a snap election, This Writer will be surprised. But I’ll still be happy.

“Jeremy Corbyn has called a special meeting of the Shadow Cabinet to step up Labour’s preparations for a snap election,” PoliticsHome trumpeted today.

It’s possible, of course.

But it is just as likely that Jeremy Corbyn will be holding the meeting to make sure every member of his shadow government is aware of all the developments that will have taken place over the summer, and will know what will be required of them over the next few weeks.

That could include much more than simply plans to force a snap election.

Apparently the meeting will take place in Salford, near Manchester. This could be to ensure there are no distractions caused by the usual Westminster noise, of course.

It won’t be to make sure nothing is leaked because any fool with a mobile phone can tip off a news-hack, no matter where they are.

John Mann may go against his party in a ‘no confidence’ vote. Bassetlaw Labour: DESELECT

John Mann.

John Mann, Labour MP for Bassetlaw, is the liar who accused Ken Livingstone of saying “Hitler was a Zionist” when he had said no such thing. It practically kicked off the so-called “Labour anti-Semitism crisis” that he and others have been stoking ever since.

Now it seems he would rather support Boris Johnson’s government than see his own party arrange a practical solution to another crisis – Brexit.

This man is no representative of the Labour Party and while Bassetlaw party members may think he is a good constituency MP (I don’t know; they may not) I’m sure plenty of other party members may manage the same while being excellent party representatives as well.

Here he is disgracing himself on LBC:

The process by which MPs may be deselected by their constituency parties has been simplified and I would certainly encourage party members in Bassetlaw to start it now.

Boris Johnson: The Trump mimic who doesn’t even have his own personality

Have a look at this, from July:

Boris Johnson, it seems, has modelled himself on Donald Trump.

That’s very funny!

… Until you remember this:

And Boris Johnson will sell it to him if he gets the chance.

Because he loves Donald Trump so much.

UK won’t be able to patrol its fishing waters after Brexit, leaked memo reveals

The UK’s fishing waters: The nation has 12 boats to patrol the area marked in blue on the map. Good luck!

It seems clear the Conservative government has failed to make any practical preparations at all for the “no deal” Brexit Boris Johnson wants so much.

(Also, the Tories seem to have bought their email system from the same place as Capita, considering the fact that it seems to be sending confidential correspondence to unexpected places.)

So now we know that the UK has just 12 ships available to patrol an area of fishing water three times the size of the country’s land mass.

But don’t worry – Tory ministers are “confident” security will be enforced.

There is “a lot of uncertainty” about the UK’s capacity to patrol fishing waters after a no-deal Brexit, a government memo mistakenly emailed to the BBC has revealed.

The memo, from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, says there are just 12 ships “to monitor a space three times the size of the surface area of the UK”.

In the event of leaving without a deal, the UK would become an independent coastal state and leave the Common Fisheries Policy, which states the EU’s shared rules about how much fish countries can catch and where.

But ministers said they are confident security will be enforced after Brexit.

The more honest answer is that anybody will be able to wander into our waters, steal our fish to the point where none are left, and wander out again – but you can’t expect honesty from a Tory, can you?

Here’s why the witch-hunters are wrong about Chris Williamson

Outdoor oratory: Chris Williamson speaking to the crowd in Brighton on August 8.

You’ll be aware that MP Chris Williamson, suspended from Labour on a trumped-up anti-Semitism charge, had to make a speech in the open air after Brighton venues were bullied out of hosting him, apparently by organisations claiming to represent Jewish people.

It seems representatives of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council rushed to Brighton to protest against his appearance on Thursday evening. We know that protesters were there, taking photographs of Mr Williamson’s supporters without permission (and we should certainly ask who these photographers were and what they intended to do with these images).

Today, I have seen two pieces on Facebook that suggest the hysteria whipped up around this meeting was not only utterly unwarranted but completely unfair.

Consider this post by Robert Cohen:

“With the President of the Board of Deputies and the CEO of the Jewish Leadership Council rushing down to Brighton last night to stop a speech by Chris Williamson MP, you’d think Williamson was about to call for destroying Jewish homes, or stealing Jewish land or denying Jewish human rights, or maiming Jewish protestors. Or perhaps he was about to proudly reveal he’d been a former guard at a concentration camp in Poland several years before he was actually born. But no, he made a speech about fighting racism and capitalism.‬

‪”The antisemitism case against Williamson is thin and flimsy at best. Personally, I don’t buy it. Unless “Jew baiting” now means not agreeing with the BoD, which in turn is the ‘new antisemitism’.‬

‪”The British Quakers must have been under huge pressure to cancel the Chris Williamson meeting on their premises. Fear of violence must have been a big factor too with calls for protestors to descend on the seaside town. I’m not going to criticise the Quakers as they’ve stood firm against the Board many times before (including on my behalf).‬

‪”As usual, the Board and JLC gets worked up about the wrong threats to Jewish interests. When will our Jewish leaders understand what’s really eating away at our Jewish safety and Jewish integrity? It’s taking place on the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem everyday. ‬

‪”Stand with the oppressed, never the oppressor (no matter who they are). Shabbat Shalom.‬”

What did he say? That the BoD and the JLC rushed to Brighton to stop an MP from giving a speech that denounced racism?

That seems completely arse-backward to This Writer.

If only we could see the speech and judge for ourselves, eh?

Here it is.

Who are the racists here – Chris Williamson and the crowd who came to hear him talk about challenging racism? Or the Board of Deputies, the Jewish Leadership Council and their intimidating adherents?

These ‘architects of misery’ are not the answer to Brexit

Yellow Tory: Jo Swinson and the Liberal Democrats cannot sort out Brexit; they only want to get in the way of the parties who can.

With the Liberal Democrats making so much noise about not supporting a Corbyn-led government to stop “no-deal” Brexit, it’s worth watching this from Owen Jones, on Double Down News:

“We would not be in this crisis without the Lib Dems.”

“Not repentant, by the way.”

“Think of the bedroom tax, when grieving parents after their kid died had a spare room, then they had to pay the bedroom tax.”

“Think of the disabled people, who had their benefits stripped away from them.”

“Think of the privatisation of the National Health Service.”

“Think of those tax cuts – for the rich.”

“All of those policies backed, voted for, implemented by Lib Dem MPs and ministers.”

And yet now they are trying to set themselves up as kingmakers.

There are only – what – 13 of them in the House of Commons.

They are negligible.

Stop supporting them and get behind someone who can implement real change.
