Johnson’s corrupt plan for the BBC – the propaganda arm of the Tory party

Not my image: Somebody else made this – indicating that concerns over the BBC’s claim to impartiality are well-founded.

Some might say it’s a good thing BBC director-general Tony Hall has been persuaded to retire early.

Robert Peston says it means current chairman David Clementi will have a chance to oversee the installation of a new DG who is not under the influence of Boris Johnson and his svengali Dominic Cummings.

But Clementi’s term in the chair is nearly over, and it seems likely Johnson will use the government’s influence over the membership of the BBC board to ensure that whoever replaces him will fire anyone the prime minister doesn’t like – and replace them with a Tory puppet.

Of course we all know that news reporting on the BBC ended several years ago; we have been fed Tory-leaning propaganda for some time now.

The current move is to ensure people at the top of the BBC who won’t get in the way of Johnson’s plan to put an end to the UK’s public service broadcaster and deliver it to commercial operators (who will, of course, kowtow to the Tories).

Johnson overturns ALL Lords’ amendments to his Brexit Bill. There will be no justice under his rule

The UK is on course to leave the European Union at the end of the month – becoming much less just in the process, thanks to Boris Johnson.

After the Lords modified his Brexit Bill to bring a modicum of decency back into it, Johnson made sure all their amendments were reversed before the Bill was passed at its third and final reading in the Commons.

This means post-Brexit Britain will not give unaccompanied child refugees the right to be reunited with their families in the UK.

Only Tories voted against the amendment. Apparently “caring Conservatism” will disappear into history alongside the UK’s EU membership.

If Johnson thinks he can renege on his Brexit deal, he’s about to get a big wake-up call

Thumb up: but if Boris Johnson goes through with his stated intention to renege on his Brexit deal, the EU will probably tell him what to stick his thumb up.

Boris Johnson seems to think he’s the naughty boy of international politics.

You can just hear him: “Bah! I said we’d impose a border in the middle of the Irish Sea – but I didn’t mean it! What a jape! And what are they going to do? Don’t they know we’re British?”

That is precisely the point, of course.

Being British, he is in no position to go disregarding conditions of his Brexit deal.

If he does, he’ll lose something he wants – like… I don’t know… favourable terms on the continent for City financiers?

We were talking about that only last week, when it seemed likely he would sacrifice the UK’s fishing waters for a nibble at EU financial markets.

Now, it seems Johnson will throw the lot up in the air, just to pretend he told the Eurocrats where to go.

Even though he’ll be dumping himself – and all the rest of us – out in the cold.

Of course, there is another aspect to this – that Johnson wants to anger the EU.

Isn’t that the quickest way to the “no deal” Brexit that will (allegedly) pay back certain dodgy funders for their support in getting him installed as Tory leader – and PM?

Trump’s ‘prophets of doom’ speech suggests the UK should NOT enter trade deal with him

Doom: While Donald Trump tells Davos nothing is wrong, the habitat of Australian species – like kangaroos – has been destroyed in fire. Do the flames have to be spreading up Pennsylvania Avenue before he’ll admit the facts?

If the UK enters a trade deal with Donald Trump, won’t it be joining an ‘axis of doom’ with one of the world’s principle climate crisis deniers?

That’s the message from his speech at Davos, where the US president made clear that he was not planning to change his country’s high-carbon economy.

The man who has absolute power to dominate, transform and control the lives of most people in the world decried climate protesters for demanding “absolute power to dominate, transform and control every aspect of our lives.”

That’s a bit hypocritical, isn’t it?

Oh, he said he’d sign up to an initiative to plant, restore and conserve a trillion trees – but hasn’t he noticed how all the trees seem to be catching fire, in the Amazon and Australia?

Climate crisis icon Greta Thunberg has – and she was at Davos where Mr Trump’s speech failed to impress her.

“Our house is still on fire. Your inaction is fuelling the flames by the hour, and we are telling you to act as if you loved your children above all else,” she said.

“You say: ‘We won’t let you down. Don’t be so pessimistic.’ And then, silence.”

And she asked: “What will you tell your children was the reason to fail and leave them facing… climate chaos that you knowingly brought upon them? That it seemed so bad for the economy that we decided to resign the idea of securing future living conditions without even trying?”

The trouble is, she has been saying this for more than a year and those in power haven’t lifted a finger; in other words, she’s right about them.

And history may view such people with extreme prejudice – as UK TV presenter Chris Packham made clear in a speech to TV executives at the annual Bafta television lecture.

He wasn’t afraid to name names, either. He said future generations may come to regard Mr Trump, Vladimir Putin, Jair Bolsonaro and Scott Morrison in a similar way as current generations see Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot, because by then they could have caused the deaths of millions of people.

But while the leaders pay nothing more than lip-service to action on climate change, UK prime minister Boris Johnson is inching closer to a trade deal with Mr Trump – one that, we’re told, will bind him into policies that deny the danger.

Already he has failed to seize opportunities to make a real difference.

Will he bottle it again – and sell us all down the river just so he can have a few American dollars?

Universal Credit is another Tory postcode lottery making poorer people even worse-off

Thanks should go to the Resolution Foundation for exposing the Tory government again.

Universal Credit is a poor excuse for a benefit, in comparison to its forerunners.

On average, it might make 39 per cent of people better-off – but 46 per cent lose out. How is that helping?

And Resolution Foundation research has shown that it favours people living in more affluent areas, where working families pay higher rents.

Single parents, out-of-work single people and disabled people (of course) all fare badly under the new system.

So places like Liverpool, which has a relatively high proportion of all three kinds of people, also fare badly.

In Liverpool, only 32 per cent of families are seeing an increase in benefit payments; a massive 52 per cent are worse-off.

Is it a coincidence that Liverpool is also a strongly Labour-supporting area?

Lords send Johnson down to a fourth defeat over his Brexit bill

Lords: They’ve just shown up Boris Johnson for a fourth time.

The House of Lords has delivered yet another amendment to Boris Johnson’s Brexit bill.

They insisted that measures be introduced to allow unaccompanied child refugees to be reunited with their parents – in the UK.

Boris Johnson has claimed he’ll reverse all the Lords’ amendments – because he’s a blind, bigoted fool.

But charities including the British Red Cross and Safe Passage have urged him not to strike out this provision.

It will be interesting to see what he does.

This Site said yesterday that someone should monitor times when Peers defeat Johnson’s government, to demonstrate how wrong-headed his ideas are.

Well, this is a great example of such a thing.

And if he really does reverse it, we’ll have even more evidence to throw against him.

Complained about the DWP? Don’t hold your breath waiting for an investigation

The state of this.

Remember when This Site told you complaints to the DWP about the company the Tory government hired to assess claimants’ eligibility for certain benefits had multiplied nearly 15 times since 2013?

Well, it turns out that if you complain to the Independent Case Examiner (ICE) about the DWP or any organisation working for it, you’ll be waiting more than a year.

In response to a parliamentary question last week, the Tory government admitted:

“In the first six months of 2019 (January to June 2019) it took the Independent Case Examiner’s Office an average of: 59 weeks to commence an investigation (from the point at which the complaint was accepted for examination); and 23 weeks to complete an investigation (from the point at which it was allocated to an investigation case manager).”

So you’ll be waiting a year and a half for compensation that totals a maximum of £200.

Did you ever get the impression that somebody wants you to think it isn’t worth bothering?
