Gary Lineker causes controversy again by saying the obvious about Israel’s genocide

Gary Lineker: once again he is a target; once again it is for supporting a well-argued position.

The Israel apologists really don’t like being made to face the facts.

Today (November 22) they are attacking Gary Lineker for sharing a YouTube video by Owen Jones, discussing an Israeli academic’s assessment of that country’s onslaught against Gaza as a “textbook genocide”:

I pointed out that this was a genocide, weeks ago, and the points made by Professor Segal are those that I made. His illustrations are persuasive, although you may need to see the whole video to realise that:

Jones notes at the end that Israel’s supporters were likely to pile in and attack – and he’s right. He may not have realised that he would not be the main target.

Instead, it was Mr Lineker – and the principle form of the attack seemed to be against his intelligence:

They also attacked him as a person:

I’m sure there are many other attackers on the social media.

All I can suggest is that these people receive the kind of treatment they would like us to give Mr Lineker.

That is, they should be blocked on the social media and ignored if they turn up anywhere else.

Eylon Levy: why is this man allowed onto our media?

Manipulative: Eylon Levy.

Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy should not be allowed onto UK media unless he provides solid evidence of his claims about alleged atrocities against Israelis.

His current schtick is to claim that Hamas terrorists raped their way through southern Israel on October 7 and then kidnapped Israelis including girls aged under 18. The implication seems to be that they have been raped in captivity (or will be).

Where is the evidence to support this?

All the information we have from former hostages who have been released so far is that Hamas has treated its hostages remarkably well, looking after their needs and providing medical care where needed.

There has been no implication of mistreatment at all.

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

Yet Levy makes and distributes video clips like the following, lecturing Hollywood celebrities who campaigned for the return of schoolgirl hostages taken by Boko Haram in Nigeria in 2014. Christians among the girls were forced to convert to Islam and then married to members of Boko Haram – so there is clear evidence of sexual mistreatment of them, in contrast to what we know about Hamas’s treatment of its October 7 hostages.

Is Levy play-acting the victim, and making claims that he cannot prove?

Meanwhile, his country’s troops have murdered more than 6,000 Palestinian children – and their indiscriminate attacks may have also resulted in the deaths of some of the hostages he pleads so emotionally to save.

We all want the hostages restored to their families in good health. It seems to me that people like Levy are merely paying lip-service to that aim while his government’s armed forces endanger their lives.

This Writer has no time for such two-faced manipulation – and neither should you.

To UK media organisations: get him off our screens, out of our newspapers, off our radios. And keep him off.

Stupidity: Israel lobbyists attack University Challenge over ‘anti-Semitic octopus’

Not anti-Semitic: sometimes a blue octopus is just a stuffed toy, and sometimes coloured clothes are just coloured clothes.

They have rightly been roasted for this.

After contestants from Christchurch College, Oxford, appeared on the BBC’s University Challenge quiz show with a stuffed toy octopus as their mascot, pro-Israel activists took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to denounce them and the show, claiming it was an anti-Semitic trope.

Some also claimed that one of the contestants, Melika Gorgianeh, appeared to be wearing the colours of the Palestinian flag – until they had it pointed out to them that her clothes were not in the correct colours and any similarity was nothing more than a coincidence.

We all learned last month that the octopus (now they’re saying it has to be blue, but who cares?) is an obscure anti-Semitic canard, after Greta Thunberg was forced to remove a photo from her ‘X’ timeline.

Calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, she was pictured with a blue octopus that happened to be a common tool used by neurodivergent people to express their feelings. In the image, it was showing sadness.

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

The backlash against the hysterical “anti-Semitism” screamers has been encouraging. Let’s have a look.

City AM webmaster Jack Mendel had the right idea:

And look what he got in response to his well-reasoned thoughts:

Some responses were less tolerant but more incisive:

Considering the fact that Israel has been committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza strip, with a response to – yes – a terrorist atrocity that has been hugely disproportionate to the hurt that country received, it is not only astronomically stupid for its supporters to claim anti-Semitic tropes are turning up in places like this; it is also astonishingly offensive.

To those of you committing these offenses, This Writer can only say: clam up. You are not helping your cause. You are making yourselves, and Israel, look stupid, small-minded, bigoted and bloodthirsty.

To everybody who is being exposed to these offenses on a daily basis, my suggestion is: block these people. Remove them from your lives. De-legitimise and de-platform them. And when they squeal (because they will), remind them that it is the consequence of their own stupidity.

How does the IDF’s video clip prove al-Shifa hospital was a Hamas headquarters?

Invasion of the liars: IDF troops in al-Shifa hospital.

Is anybody else struggling to believe Israeli propaganda saying that a video clip showing Hamas hostages being escorted into al-Shifa hospital in Gaza means that place was a terrorist HQ.

According to the BBC,

The video showed two hostages being brought into the hospital, Gaza’s largest and most modern.

Armed men can be seen in the CCTV video which is date-stamped 7 October. One of the hostages appears to be resisting – the other is shown on a stretcher.

Here’s part of it:

Hamas has expressed surprise at the allegation – saying the organisation had made it clear that many hostages had been referred to hospitals:

“BREAKING: HAMAS OFFICIAL STATEMENT EXPOSING ISRAEL ON AL- SHIFA HOSPITAL Izzat Al-Rishq; “Regarding what the spokesman for the terrorist enemy army said about the arrival of prisoners of the occupation to Al-Shifa Hospital, we said early on that the resistance transferred many prisoners of the occupation to hospitals to receive treatment and undergo surgical operations, especially after some of them were injured as a result of the occupation’s aircraft bombing them. We risked our fighters to guarantee the injured prisoners the best treatment. Possible in hospitals in the Gaza Strip. We have published many pictures about this; Now their army spokesman presents it as if they have discovered something great. What the spokesman for the occupation army says completely condemns them. These are points that are recorded for us and not [against] us. Taking care of the prisoners, treating them, and giving them possible medical care is a point for us and not [against] us.””

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

The line about some hostages being injured as a result of IDF airstrikes ties in with another Israeli claim – that Corporal Noa Marciano, 19, was killed after being taken into al-Shifa hospital with minor injuries.

From the BBC article:

“This morning we updated Noa’s family that according to our findings, she was kidnapped to a safe house near Shifa,” Rear Adm Daniel Hagari, IDF chief spokesperson told reporters.

“During IDF air strikes in the area, the Hamas terrorist who was holding Noa was killed and she was wounded in the air strike, but not a life-threatening injury. Noa was taken inside Shifa hospital, where she was murdered by another Hamas terrorist.”

Hamas has previously claimed Ms Marciano was killed in an Israeli air strike, which the IDF said occurred on 9 November.

Where is Israel’s proof that Cpl Marciano was killed by a Hamas terrorist?

And the IDF “released a video that it said showed a tunnel 10m (33ft) below ground that runs for 55m up to a closed and reinforced door. It said this was now part of the evidence that “clearly proves” numerous buildings in the hospital’s complex have been “used by Hamas as cover for terrorist infrastructure and activities”.”

But we knew tunnels under al-Shifa hospital were dug by the Israeli government itself, back in 1983 or thereabouts. Don’t we?

And yet, Israel’s outriders in the social media are crowing as if these unproven claims – the BBC has said it

has not been able to verify the video which was presented at a news briefing by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Sunday.

The latest video is not yet the evidence that’s been promised of the sort of vast and intricate operation depicted in a computer simulation which the IDF previously released showing what it believes any Hamas base underground at al-Shifa could look like.

Believe it or not, the BBC has been slammed by the Israel apologists for this reality check (apologies for the language from Sussex Friends of Israel; it is what it is):

The reservations expressed by the BBC interviewer and interviewee seem entirely reasonable to This Writer.

But many of – sadly – the usual suspects seem ready and willing to accept the flimsiest claim if it comes from the Israeli government and/or the IDF.

Here’s what Israel is saying:

And here come the apologists:

What? Irrefutable evidence that al-Shifa hospital was the Hamas HQ and execution dungeon?

Has anybody – trustworthy – seen this irrefutable – evidence?

Al-Shifa is the best-equipped hospital in the Gaza strip, though; that’s most likely the reason for any hostages being taken there for treatment.

Now here’s Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy:

He was followed by eager supporters:

But it gets worse:

What does it mean? It means this:

Let’s see what happens. Expect an unrestricted Israeli onslaught, with absolutely no quarter given for UN representatives, non-governmental organisations, members of the World Health Organisation or anything else.

Meanwhile, let’s remind ourselves of some genuine facts:

Regev was inadvertently confirming the plentiful evidence that it was Israeli missiles, fired indiscriminately at cars and homes, that burned alive both Hamas fighters and Israeli hostages. The atrocity of burned bodies – blamed by the entire western political and media class on Hamas, and cited as justification for the current genocidal rampage in Gaza – were, in fact, Israel’s doing. What proportion of the 1,200 Israelis who died on Oct 7 were killed by Israel’s actions? We can assume Israel will not be forthcoming with that information. Will the western media start changing its simple-minded, genocide-justifying narrative of Oct 7? Don’t bet on it. Ali Abunimah’s story here: electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abun My story, What the BBC fails to tell you about October 7, here: jonathan-cook.net/blog/2023-11-0

Sadly, while Israel’s lies may kill many, the facts can’t bring anybody back to life.

The Israel/Hamas propaganda war: who do you believe?

The phrase for the people we’re seeing all over the mainstream and social media at the moment is “bad faith actor” – although some of them might actually believe what they’re saying.

These are people who put out falsehoods and disinformation, constantly, in order to gaslight you into disbelieving the evidence of your own senses.

So, for example, here’s Piers Morgan:

Here’s Jones’s response:

Morgan is wrong – but for a different reason – as This Writer has pointed out:

Yes: it doesn’t matter what Piers Morgan (or anybody else) says. We must judge Israel and Hamas on what we see them doing.

Now here’s Jacob Rees-Mogg on the BBC’s Question Time:

Of course, there’s no evidence that Israel did bring incubators to al-Shifa hospital; in fact, it seems more likely that they brought the guns that they then claimed were Hamas weapons, under the label “medical equipment”.

And who did the killing at that rave (it wasn’t a peace rally)? Evidence seems to be showing that it was the IDF’s “friendly fire” that did it.

Next up: Mark Regev, an advisor to Israely prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, talking about the deaths of Palestinian children, caused by Israel:

Regev’s claim that Israel will destroy Hamas is false. Hamas is an international organisation and cannot be destroyed just by smashing it in Gaza. Also, the murder of Gazan civilians means their relatives are likely to be radicalised.

Mehdi Hasan absolutely nails Regev on the disinformation coming from Israel.

But let’s have that comment about whether Israeli forces have killed children:

The claim is that Gazan children haven’t been killed by Israeli dropping the equivalent of two Hiroshima atomic bombs on their homes, but (presumably) that Hamas killed them.

Do you believe that?

And then there’s the revision of the Israeli death toll – down by 200:

It is unrealistic to expect Hamas to have burned its own members to cinders.

Perhaps this is more convincing:

“This also adds legitimacy to claims that many Israelis found burned beyond recognition were friendly fire victims.” Like all those burned bodies that were supposed to be Israeli babies?

First we were told they were beheaded by Hamas, then they were burned by Hamas. Now it seems they were burned by the IDF.

“Yesterday an Israeli official admitted on TV that Israel had misidentified HUNDREDS of dead Hamas fighters as Israeli because there were so many corpses that were too badly burned to identify. Unless you believe Hamas was also burning hundreds of its own fighters alive, it’s safe to assume that the burned corpses seen in all the images Israel has been bandying about since October 7 were in fact victims of Hellfire missiles fired by IDF forces. The IDF, not Hamas, burned people alive — both Israeli and Palestinian.”

Here’s another claim:

I’m not sure what’s depraved about a woman giving birth in captivity. It happens in prisons, I hear. And we know from former hostages that they have access to medical treatment. The depravity would have been if this lady had been taken to a Gaza hospital and forced to give birth while the IDF was attacking it, or if the baby had needed an incubator but couldn’t use one because the IDF had cut power to it.

“Borrell, in his press conference held today Friday in the city of Ramallah, surpassed the limits of decency and diplomacy, when he tried to distort the right of the Palestinian people to resist the occupation, which is a right guaranteed by international law.”

This is accurate – it is a right guaranteed by international law.

“We see that the US and the EU are violating international law by giving the occupation the green light to commit more crimes and massacres against our people.”

Arguably true. These organisations (the US government and the EU) are supporting Israel, despite actions that are arguably war crimes.

“We reaffirm the right of our people to continue their struggle and resist the occupation, as we find it a very legitimate and legal right. The Palestinian people are the only ones who have the right to sovereignty over their land, and no one has that right to dictate over them.”

Israel has invaded, occupied and stolen Palestinian land. It remains Palestinian land, even though it has been stolen, so this is arguably accurate.

“Our people will remain committed to their legitimate rights, defending them by all means until the occupation is defeated and eliminated, and their state is established, with Jerusalem as its capital.”

Okay… if it’s a commitment to legitimate rights, then this is a call for a two-state solution. But you can bet someone is saying it’s a demand for Israel to be dissolved.

Now try this, for distortion – from Sussex Friends of Israel:

How is this doctor’s honestly-held belief, based on her experience, disinformation?

Back to al-Shifa hospital now where, according to the BBC, Israel has fabricated its claim that Hamas had a command centre there:

Now here’s Norman Finkelstein, with a new revelation:

So: 11,000 people were killed “because of a hole in the ground”.

And it gets worse:

Let’s go over to the United Nations:

A UN rapporteur has said Israel cannot claim it is acting out of self-defence under international law:

It means Israel does not have any excuse for the war crimes it is committing.

Opponents of this point of view may claim that Francesca Albanese is biased towards Palestine – but she has that covered too:

Empirically, the weight of opinion is turning against Israel, with expert evidence and opinion showing that Israel is wrong to do what it is doing and lying about what it has done.

This is an ongoing situation, though. Let’s see what happens next.

Rishi Sunak’s respect for the Supreme Court is non-existent

Rishi Sunak and his priorities: he appears to be apologising for getting them all wrong; if only that were true!

Rishi-washy Sunak has been talking to the nation. What a shame the content of his speech was so disappointing.

He started by saying that while he did not agree with the Supreme Court’s decision that deporting unexpected migrants into the UK to Rwanda is unlawful, he respected and accepted it.

The rest of his speech went on to demonstrate that he neither respects nor accepts the court’s decision.

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

Instead, in defiance of the court’s ruling that Rwanda is not a safe destination for refugees, he said he would introduce “emergency legislation” that would enable Parliament to “confirm Rwanda is safe”.

That means he intends to pervert the system in order to produce a false outcome; the court has ruled that Rwanda is not safe – it is not going to become safe because of a law change here in the UK.

He said he expects flights to Rwanda to start in the spring of 2024. This is to disrespect and deny the Supreme Court’s ruling that flights to Rwanda should not happen at all.

He said the government will “engage with a process of reform” with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) – but he would “not allow a foreign court to block our ability to get these flights off”.

For the record: the European Court of Human Rights was created to enforce the European Convention of Human Rights, a treaty drawn up in the aftermath of World War II, largely written by British civil servants and lawyers, which protects civil and political rights.

It is literally a product of the UK legal system and calling the ECHR a foreign court is highly debatable.

Sunak also said the “British people’s patience can only be stretched so thin” – and “they expect the boats to be stopped”.

The words of this politician stand on their heads!

He says he respects and accepts the Supreme Court’s decision, then outlines how he disrespects and denies it, and intends to circumvent it.

He says the European Court of Human Rights is foreign, denying the fact that it enforces a convention that was mostly written by UK lawyers.

And he says the British people’s patience is being stretched, and the British people expect the boats crossing the Channel to stop – but he means his own patience is stretched, and he expects the boats to stop.

It’s lie after lie with these phonies.

This is how UK politicians and media control the narrative on Israel and Gaza

Don’t believe the gaslighters: babies are dying in Gaza – not because of anything Hamas did, but because Israel chose to deny power to the hospital that was caring for them. That isn’t Israel defending itself; it is Israel murdering babies. Only a few weeks ago, Israel was asking us to sympathise with its people on the basis of a lie that Israeli babies had been murdered by Hamas. Do you see how this works?

I know he’s divisive but this YouTube clip by Owen Jones is right on the button.

It immortalises an exchange – more like a confrontation – between the Guardian columnist and primarily Ed Balls, former (useless) Shadow Chancellor who now podcasts with the man who was the UK’s actual Chancellor, George Osborne (see how cosy these guys are?)

And it wasn’t over the horrifying carnage being wrought in Gaza – upon, as Jones rightly states, babies as much as everyone else; it was over the way the vast majority of UK politicians and the mainstream media have been trying to gaslight us all into thinking that Israel is somehow in the right.

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

The behaviour of all those in the studio around Jones – but Balls in particular – is highly instructive:

At the end of the day, we all know that Israel is wrong to do what it is doing.

We are watching genocide.

If Israel had any interest in removing Hamas, it would have run an espionage operation to spy out all that organisation’s hiding-places long ago, and then after the October 7 attacks, it would have carried out surgical strikes on those hiding-places. It would also have engaged in international diplomacy to expose and remove Hamas from its bases in other countries. That did not happen.

Instead, Israel has waded into Gaza and is piling up the bodies of innocent people.

Politicians from Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer down have lined up to say Israel has a right to do this because it is defending itself, despite the fact that Israel has already murdered many times the number of innocents that Hamas killed on October 7 (most Israeli casualties were military, remember) without making any real dent in the organisation that it claims is its real enemy.

And when commentators like Jones point out the falsehoods in their arguments, media interviewers like Balls turn up to pick holes in the claims, on the basis that any tiny inconsistency in what Jones says under pressure must mean his entire line of reasoning is wrong. ‘Tisn’t.

You saw it very clearly in the clip, when it was claimed that people on Saturday’s (November 11) peace march were preaching hate – so that meant everybody on the march had to be a racist and an anti-Semite. They very obviously weren’t.

Owen Jones is right. The UK’s politicians – and their client media (and let’s be generous here and agree that it doesn’t include every single member of the UK media establishment – just most of them) – are trying to gaslight us into believing a lie that Israel has to commit genocide in Gaza in order to defend itself.

And he’s right about another element of this: history will judge those people harshly.

French President calls for ceasefire between Israel and Gaza

Emmanuel Macron: the French Head of State wants a ceasefire in Gaza.

Emmanuel Macron has taken to television to call for a ceasefire in Gaza – led by Israel.

But he stopped short of accusing Israel of war crimes:

He said he was a Head of State – not a judge.

To This Writer, his words imply that he believes somebody in the Israeli government will be brought to book for the deaths of civilians in Gaza, sometime in the future.

Is this Israel supporter rehabilitating the Nazis and justifying holocaust denial?

Douglas Murray: he’s near Gaza, waiting for the hammer of public opinion to fall on him.

Douglas Murray has brought the Israel/Gaza propaganda war to a new low by apparently comparing Gazans – not just Hamas – with the German soldiers who carried out the Nazi Holocaust against Jewish people.

Worse, the platform from which he launched this heinous claim was the Jewish Chronicle.

See for yourself:

Watch this clip from around five minutes, 30 seconds in and you’ll hear Murray repeating his claim that German soldiers were ashamed of what the Nazis ordered them to do.

Isn’t this Holocaust revisionism which, as we are all taught, is one of the vilest kinds of anti-Semitism?

He says the difference between the SS and the Gazans – not just Hamas, remember – is that the Gazans are proud of killing Jews.

There is no readily-apparent excuse for this behaviour – either by Murray or the Jewish Chronicle. Saying the Germans who carried out the so-called “Final Solution” were “just following orders” – the “Nuremberg Defence” – was not good enough when they were brought to justice for their crimes and it isn’t good enough now.

And Holocaust revisionism is Holocaust denial.

Murray claims to be supporting Israel but in his words it seems clear that he is undermining the Jews. If German soldiers were ashamed of what they were doing, as he says, then with the removal of the Nazi government, the reason for a Jewish state would have also been removed; Jews would have been safe where they were.

This was clearly not believed to be the case, as we see from the decision to create Israel.

Taking the reasoning further, though, if there was no reason for creating a Jewish state, there would be no reason for that state to have stolen land and property from its neighbours, the Palestinians; to have driven them into enclaves (ghettoes) like Gaza; and to have murdered tens of thousands of them over a period of decades.

There would have been no reason for Hamas to have been founded in the first place; no reason for Palestinians to seek restitution against their oppressors; and no reason for Murray to be standing on land that was once Palestine, spouting his nonsense.

Sadly, it was deemed that a Jewish state was necessary. The reason for that is the failure of European people of the time – and others – to understand and/or respect cultural diversity. Ultimate responsibility for the situation in Gaza falls on our ancestors.

Most particularly, it falls on the Germans who Murray disgustingly tries to pedestalise above the ordinary citizens of Gaza – half of whom are children and all of whom he appears to deem to be as bad as Hamas, and deserving of the collective punishment Israel is meting out on them all.

And that – as we all should know – would be an attempt to justify a war crime.

On the eve of the Armistice Day peace march, what’s going on in Israel/Palestine?

Let’s have a visual reminder of what’s going on in Israel and Palestine.

Be warned: some of the following material may be disturbing.

In World War II, six million Jews were murdered, not for anything they had done, but because of what they were. Here’s the story of Jewish people murdering a Palestinian for the exact same reason:

It makes the words “Never Again” ring hollow, doesn’t it?

The al-Rantisi children’s hospital is in Gaza:

It is a war crime to destroy a place of worship:

That is the reason (hopefully) a million people will be in London, marching for peace in Palestine, on Armistice Day.

Let’s not be bogged down by laying blame. People are dying.

How many of us have to go to London before our government accepts the will of the majority and ends its support for the Gaza genocide?
