BUSTED: Johnson ‘England flag’ image wasn’t what he said it was

Big lie: Johnson cropped this image to remove the references to Nationwide’s Mutual Respect campaign, then put it out as his own expression of support for the England team.

I dare say that Clare Hepworth wasn’t the only person to have this reaction on seeing a now-infamous image in the run-up to the Ukraine-England Euro 2020 match on Saturday:

Yes it was, but not in the way she may have imagined. Johnson certainly released the image – he posted it in a tweet himself:

But he was being dishonest about the reasons for the picture being taken.

It wasn’t to show his support for the England football team; it was part of the Nationwide Building Society’s campaign for Mutual Respect in Football – a reaction against the rise in hate crime (under Tory governments) in recent years:

Well, we’ve seen that Downing Street did release that image.

Here are a few similar images, showing how Nationwide has been getting public figures to sign a huge England flag in support of Mutual Respect in Football and opposition of hate crime:

I also found a video reaction from one person, discussing what Johnson had done, who hit the nail right on the head – but it seems to have disappeared. Count yourself lucky if you don’t like extreme language because this was not only on the head but near the knuckle too.

‘Dogmeat wrapped in the Union Flag’: new poem highlights Boris Johnson’s incompetence and lies [STRONG LANGUAGE]

I wonder what Boris Johnson thinks of David Hare’s poem immortalising some of the prime minister’s worst mistakes, lies and corruption for all time?

He probably hasn’t heard it and will want to ignore it.

But you don’t have to!

Here’s Agony Uncle:

Mr Hare is a multi-award-winning playwright and director. He doesn’t seem to be known as a poet, though.

This Writer feels sure he has blown any chance of becoming Poet Laureate, in any case!

But he has done the public a great service. This is how history should remember Boris Johnson.

Government buildings ordered to fly Union flag every day as Tories stride into blatant fascism

Flag-shagger: Boris Johnson’s insistence on having a Union flag behind him whenever he is seen on TV, and his government’s demand that government buildings fly that flag at all times, indicates an alignment with “powerful and continuing nationalism” of the kind promoted by organisations like the BNP and Britain First: fascists all.

All UK government buildings have been ordered to fly the Union flag every day in the Johnson government’s most blatant display of fascist principles yet.

The first characteristic of fascism, according to Laurence W Britt’s famous 14-point list, is “powerful and continuing nationalism”.

This is most strongly evidenced by the use of flags. You see it in the behaviour of far-right extremists like the BNP, Britain First and so on, whose insistence on adopting the Union flag for themselves has dragged it into disrepute.

Johnson may claim that he’s taking it back but in fact he is merely aligning his government with those other fascists.

Biased – and contradictory – BBC attacks Munchetty AND Edwards over flags

If all nations’ flags are supposed to be equal, it seems the BBC’s bosses think some are more equal than others.

The Corporation has attacked its own newsreaders, Naga Munchetty and Huw Edwards, for ridiculing the current policy of Boris Johnson’s Tory ministers to hang a Union Flag behind them whenever they’re interviewed.

Tell you what, Tory Tim*, is this better for you?

The Munchetty controversy arose after a BBC Breakfast News interview with corrupt (see past articles) Tory Housing Minister Robert Jenrick, who – of course – had made sure a Union Flag was visible behind him. Co-presenter Charlie Stayt passed a comment about it which she enjoyed, conspicuously:

The incident prompted some anti-Conservative social media users to post messages on Twitter that Ms Munchetty graced with a ‘like’ – and it was this that dropped her into trouble with her bosses.

She later wrote on Twitter: “I ‘liked’ tweets today that were offensive in nature about the use of the British flag as a backdrop in a government interview this morning. I have since removed these ‘likes’.

“This [sic] do not represent the views of me or the BBC. I apologise for any offence taken.”

So it seems the BBC wants people who fly their flag to be treated with respect.

Right?

Why, then, did it treat Huw Edwards the way it did when he tweeted a tongue-in-cheek response to the row?

BBC bosses ordered Edwards to take down a tweet that said – well, see for yourself:

Several hours later, Mr Edwards tweeted this:

Do you think he was being altogether serious in that last comment?

The Corporation’s contradictory attitude has sown more than a little confusion:

Particularly confused, it seems, was Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, who appears to have indulged in overkill, just to be sure:

Labour courts celebrities after flag-shagging failure

After last week’s farcical attempt to attract knuckle-scraping nationalists by having flags hanging behind them wherever they go, Labour’s leaders have found another way to distract from the fact that they have no policies distinct from the Tories.

Keir Starmer was instantly denounced as a “flag-shagger” after details of a Labour Party briefing urging representatives to wear suits and be seen with the Union Flag were leaked to the public.

I don’t know the origin of the phrase. I wonder whether it has something to do with politicians who have their wives standing behind them when they make a speech (Donald Trump comes to mind).

Now consider this:

(I know, it’s from The Times, which is not considered a bastion of the left-wing press.)

“Labour tells MPs to woo stars and influencers ahead of local elections” the headline proclaims.

And the picture caption adds: “Labour has previously won endorsements from music and film stars such as the actor Martin Freeman, the singer Dua Lipa and the rapper Stormzy.”

I don’t know what you think, but This Writer can’t see any of the three stars named there being particularly keen for Starmer to shag them – even if only figuratively.

Facebook has been a goldmine of comments on this. For instance: “I’m wondering which celebrities will come forward to endorse Keir Starmer. All the celebs who endorsed Jeremy Corbyn will understandably still feel a bit sore after the PLP turned cannibal on its own members. Robert Webb and Hal Cruttenden (who he?) tore up their membership cards.”

This is true, and it means that Labour would probably have to offer something to any “name” before getting their endorsement.

In other words (and this is from another Facebook comment): “‘We want you to whore out and whore out hard! You saw what Miliband did with Russell Brand? Yeah. That!'”

No political party should ever put itself in a position where it is comparable with a prostitute – selling itself for short-term gain.

Think about it. What message does that send out to the public?

It says Labour is available for hire and will do what it is told. It doesn’t stand for anything and certainly won’t represent the best interests of anybody but Keir Starmer and his cronies.

 

 

Fake Labour: Starmer should know obsequious flag-waving and a haircut won’t fool voters

Fake: Jeremy Corbyn had authentic Labour policies; Keir Starmer has a flag, a haircut, and a face that looks more like Frank Spencer than Gavin Williamson’s.

A leaked internal strategy presentation suggests Keir Starmer’s Labour Party is hoping to win back voters with exaggerated patriotism, smart suits (and haircuts), and the exploitation of veterans.

There seems to be no suggestion that Starmer should try to present his hollowed-out sub-Tory party as actually standing for anything. “Labour” seems to be be nothing more than an old title that no longer has any significance at all.

The presentation itself is based on the findings of focus groups, showing that the general public no longer has any idea what – or who – Labour is supposed to represent and thinks that Starmer’s position on any subject is to sit on the fence.

And he’s considered to be the party’s “biggest positive driver”!

It seems Starmer is trying to find a way to present himself and his fake Labour as “authentic”. In short: it’s a blueprint for lying to the nation.

Obsequious flag-waving nationalism isn’t going to cut any mustard with Labour’s core voters, though – for reasons that Clive Lewis, an MP who served with the armed forces in Afghanistan, has made clear:

“It’s not patriotism; it’s Fatherland-ism. There’s a better way to build social cohesion than moving down the track of the nativist right.

“The Tory party has absorbed Ukip and now Labour appears to be absorbing the language and symbols of the Tory party.”
