Rishi Sunak hasn’t only failed to beat inflation – his other pledges are broken as well

Rishi Sunak and his priorities: he hasn’t achieved a single one.

Yesterday (Wednesday, June 21, 2023) was not a good day to be Rishi Sunak.

Neither was Monday – but that’s another story.

We knew he failed on inflation because it’s the big headline.

But what about his other targets?

The UK’s debt pile, meanwhile, reached more than 100 per cent of economic output for the first time since 1961 as government borrowing more than doubled in May, according to official figures.

So it did:

It shows up the lie in George Osborne’s evidence to the Covid Inquiry this week, too: Osborne claimed he had needed to repair the “seriously impaired public finances”.

He said: “If we had not had a clear plan to put the public finances on a sustainable path then Britain might have experienced a fiscal crisis, we would not have had the fiscal space to deal with the coronavirus pandemic when it hit,” he said.

But when he became Chancellor in May 2010, the UK’s national debt stood at £1.03 trillion. He promised to eliminate it altogether (which is kindergarten economics; the debt is merely a yardstick of private investment in the UK’s economy) – and today’s figures show the extent of his massive failure.

Okay, how about the small boat Channel crossings?

On Sunday, it was revealed that more than 1,100 people had arrived on small boats in the past three days.

The cumulative number of arrivals in 2023 now stands at a provisional total of 10,472, according to the latest data from the Home Office.

We already know NHS waiting lists are not falling (because health service funding is being siphoned off by private health firms as profit?) and intelligent commentators say the Bank of England’s expected response to the inflation figures will stifle economic growth by sucking all the spare money out of the system.

This is what happens when you let Conservatives get their hands on the workings of government: they clown around like the idiots they are until everything breaks down.

The Tory healthcare bait-and-switch: after running down the NHS they suggest A KIND OF health insurance

Tory Brexiteers: what a gang of Con artists!

They told us Brexit would make it possible to properly fund the National Health Service (remember the “£350 million a week” lie?), bring down waiting lists and make it easier for patients to access their GP.

None of that happened.

So now they’re shifting their focus to say that private health insurance is the answer – but even with that, they’re not being honest!

Sir Edward Leigh suggested that private healthcare on lines similar to those in other European countries might help people who have paid for the NHS all their lives avoid standing at the back of a two-year waiting list.

But that’s not value for money if you’ve already paid into the National form of health Insurance all your life, is it?

And European insurance systems are highly regulated – which is something the Tories hate with all their passion.

No – he’s trying a “bait-and-switch” tactic – pretend to offer you Europe-style insurance and then actually sell you United States-style insurance instead.

Consider this:

That American model, shown in the video clip, is terrifying. Thousands of pounds per month for five years, or an unpayable amount, demanded immediately; bankruptcy.

In a UK where the Tories are deliberately pushing wages through the floor, it’s a ridiculous proposition. You won’t be able to afford the kind of health insurance they’re peddling, so it’s pointless for them to offer it to you.

But most of the people who won’t be able to afford it… don’t vote.

They’re the kind of people who say politics doesn’t interest them, or doesn’t affect them.

Imagine how they’re going to feel after they let the NHS be sold out from under them, then have an accident or a life-changing illness hits them… and they’re presented with the bill.

Tories in trouble as voters identify issues they’re ignoring as reasons to vote them out

Sunak and Truss: whoever wins the race to become prime minister will not be smiling when they have to deal with the issues that might force their government out of office – and they realise they have no answers.

Oh dear, oh dear: the Conservative Party is facing electoral collapse after people who voted Tory in 2019 identified the issues the next prime minister should tackle – and they’re mostly issues that party wants to ignore.

According to a Daily Express article, these include:

  • Inflation
  • The cost of living/energy bills
  • Delays in treatment by the National Health Service

Neither Liz Truss nor Rishi Sunak have shown much interest in any of these – having to be dragged into discussing the topics.

The only issue discussed by the voters the newspaper polled, in which the Conservatives have shown any interest, is immigration – a fake issue created by the Tory government as part of its ongoing “divide and rule” policy of presenting us all with an enemy to hate.

Sadly, they seem to have fooled a large number of people with it.

Whoever takes up the – some would say poisoned – chalice of the premiership in September, they will have to address these problems as a matter of urgency, or face the prospect of losing all the Parliamentary seats Boris Johnson won in 2019. That is a career-ending prospect.
