Neither Labour nor the Tories can meet their NHS waiting list targets

The UK’s main political parties are both building castles in the sky – or maybe hospitals. Neither Labour nor the Tories can meet their NHS waiting list targets.

The Tories have got no chance – you only have to look at this article’s featured image to see that NHS waiting lists only go one way when they are in charge.

You can blame an insistence on privatisation that puts profit over care.

And now Labour has come along, with a claim that it will hit a target to start treatment – an operation, a course of medicine or any other kind of care – for most NHS patients in England within 18 weeks.

The method by which this is to be achieved? Getting NHS staff to work out-of-hours, and making use of “spare capacity” in the private sector.

But there isn’t any spare capacity in the private sector – private firms employ NHS staff when they are needed.

This means Labour is planning to double-book NHS staff – asking them to do more overtime and carry out private sector work, both at the same time.

And these are people who are already at breaking-point due to overwork, because many of their colleagues have quit to look for less stressful employment elsewhere.

If shadow health secretary Wes Streeting is serious about his threat to health care staff, all he will do is tip more of them out of this vocation – or into better pay and conditions abroad.

And the health of the nation will suffer.

Your vote is best put elsewhere. Both Labour and the Tories will endanger your life with their health fantasies.

Every day we receive the same message … everything is broken! There is no point itemising, its everything from water through to Parliament and beyond, it is time for a revolution.
There is no need for a bloodbath, but it is essential that the two-party system that they call ‘democracy’ is at the heart of it as we look to the right and then to the left and can’t see the difference.
