Charlotte Church charms the country at National March for Palestine

Here’s somebody who can do no wrong, it seems.

This Writer has been a big fan of Charlotte Church ever since she first got involved in politics, and it is no surprise to me that she is on the right side of history again.

On Saturday (March 9), she joined the National March for Palestine – alongside a quarter of million other people, by the way; don’t believe anyone who suggests it was fewer than that – and charmed the masses with her audience-participation tribute to the women of Palestine:

Afterwards, she spoke movingly and straightforwardly about why so many people came out – and they’ll continue doing it – to demand peace:

She also spoke to Novara Media about why she felt the need to be a part of this movement, despite the threat of being labelled as an anti-Semite (or worse):

Of course, she was right about being labelled:

The question for you is, who would you prefer to be identified with – the bloodthirsty warmongers who have nothing to say other than to resort to name-calling, or the woman who says this:

Who would you choose?

The event had been overshadowed, in the days leading up to it, by concerns raised by politicians of every colour that it would be a chance for anti-Semites to turn London into a “no-go” zone for Jewish people.

Here’s one such politician – and here’s Ms Church with a reasonable response (the clip’s creator has also edited in her performance, as you’ve already seen above):

Her words have been borne out by others, including Sky‘s Jason Farrell:

Even David Baddiel agreed on this:

There is no reason to believe London becomes anything like a “no-go” zone for Jewish people when so many of them take part in the demonstrations. Here’s Just Jews:

And here are everybody else, behaving perfectly peacefully:

Perhaps this is the best message to close the article:

“In our thousands, in our millions, we are all Palestinians.” As an expression of intent, that is a message that should make the likes of Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer think again. But will it?

Israel supporters hold demonstration – on much smaller scale than pro-Palestine marchers

This is revealing.

Supporters of Israel and its genocide in Gaza held a demonstration in London – and the pictures tell the full story of how well it went in comparison to that held by supporters of Palestine.

Drug policy: are the Greens really the only adults in the room?

Candidate: it seems the Green Party has a serious candidate in the race to be mayor of London after an election this year.

It seems the campaign to elect a new mayor of London has more than two serious candidates this time.

Here’s Zoe Garbett of the Green Party, putting forward a policy to tackle rising drug-related deaths in the city:

London Covid cases highest in the UK as JN.1 variant spreads | Evening Standard

Right after This Site publishes an article raising concerns about the effects of Long Covid, it seems incidents of the latest Covid-19 variant are on the rise in the UK…

London has the highest rate of Covid in England amid the rapid spread of the JN.1 variant, analysis revealed on Thursday.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) estimate that around 6.1% of Londoners had the virus as of December 14, by far the highest proportion of any region.

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

Prevalence in the capital is three times higher than a month ago, according to the UKHSA’s winter infection survey.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the WHO said they would continue to investigate the variant but that it carried no greater risk of death or hospitalisation.

JN.1 is a subvariant of Omicron, which became the dominant global variant of Covid in winter 2021. It has been found in countries across the world including China, the UK and the United States.

So, not likely to be fatal, then.

But what about those consequences of Long Covid?

Violent arrest as pickets protest Art Society fundraiser for Israel

Protest: picketers gather outside the RSA to demonstrate against its fundraising event for Israel, whose military are currently committing genocide against the people of Gaza.

Who would have thought the Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce would blot its copy-book like this?

The RSA decided to hold an unpublicised (which indicates that the organisers have a guilty conscience) fundraising event for Israel today (December 14, 2023) at its headquarters in 8, John Adam Street, London – next to Charing Cross Station.

In attendance were said to be Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog (did we even know he was in the country?) and Tzipi Hotovely, that country’s racist ambassador to the UK.

Staff walked out in protest and started to picket, and calls soon went out for others to join them.

Inevitably, violence was bound to happen. And it seems to have been initiated by the Metropolitan Police – against a Jewish protester:

Here’s how events unfolded, courtesy of the social media:

This is a developing story. Hopefully This Site will be able to provide further information later.

On the eve of the Armistice Day peace march, what’s going on in Israel/Palestine?

Let’s have a visual reminder of what’s going on in Israel and Palestine.

Be warned: some of the following material may be disturbing.

In World War II, six million Jews were murdered, not for anything they had done, but because of what they were. Here’s the story of Jewish people murdering a Palestinian for the exact same reason:

It makes the words “Never Again” ring hollow, doesn’t it?

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

The al-Rantisi children’s hospital is in Gaza:

It is a war crime to destroy a place of worship:

That is the reason (hopefully) a million people will be in London, marching for peace in Palestine, on Armistice Day.

Let’s not be bogged down by laying blame. People are dying.

How many of us have to go to London before our government accepts the will of the majority and ends its support for the Gaza genocide?

Third massive pro-Palestinian demonstration in London is huge success

Groundswell: a through-the-window view of Westminster Bridge during the pro-Palestine demonstration.

A third – massive – demonstration of solidarity with the people of Gaza has taken place in London, attracting up to 100,000 people, according to the Metropolitan Police.

It was heralded by dire warnings of anti-Semitic sentiment and violence from the usual suspects. Here’s Tory Brexit failure David Frost:

Here’s UK Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, with a lying claim that the demonstrations were shows of open support for “the Hamas terrorists”:

His call for a more balanced, accurate and fair assessment of what is happening, by the media, is one that This Site would support, though; it is long past time the innocent Palestinians in Gaza had fair representation on our national news media.

There is no impartially-gathered evidence to show that anti-Semitism has increased in the UK.

Buy Cruel Britannia in print here. Buy the Cruel Britannia ebook here. Or just click on the image!

And what happened?

Well, this should give an impression of the scale of the event:

There were very few incidents involving the police:

It is sad that any incidents should have occurred that may be treated as hate crimes – but among a crowd of 100,000, this figure is vanishingly small.

Perhaps Rabbi Mirvis and Mr Frost were overstating their case, do you think?

Starmerite hypocrisy is at work again – and the subject is, inevitably, Jeremy Corbyn

Keir Starmer and Jeremy Corbyn: It seems Starmer is trying to backstab Mr Corbyn YET AGAIN.

Jeremy Corbyn has been urged to stand for the London Mayoralty, apparently – and the Starmer machine has leapt into action to put the kibosh on it.

As usual, the Starmerite’s have shot themselves in the foot – as far as anyone with any sense is concerned.

They have caught themselves in a classic contradiction:

People don’t like politicians who are overtly two-faced. This may go very badly indeed for Starmer.

ULEZ expansion is lawful – confounding both Rishi Sunak AND Keir Starmer

Cleaning up London’s air: the ULEZ (Ultra-Low Emissions Zone) will affect fewer than one in 10 cars but may deliver a remarkable improvement in air quality.

The High Court has delivered a timely message of support for measures to defeat global warming – by supporting London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s bid to extend the ULEZ (Ultra-Low Emissions Zone) to all of the capital’s boroughs.

Five Conservative-led borough councils had launched a legal battle to stop the extension but in what’s being described as a “landmark” ruling, Lord Justice Swift said he was “satisified” that the proposals were in the London Mayor’s “powers”.

The measure currently covers only areas within the North and South Circular Roads, but the ruling opens it up for extension to all of London’s boroughs from August 29.

It isn’t spectacularly extreme; to avoid the charge, diesel cars must generally have been first registered after September 2015, while most petrol cars registered after 2005 are also exempt.

Drivers of vehicles passing through the ULEZ area that do not comply with emissions standards are charged a daily rate of £12.50.

The decision is a blow against Rishi Sunak’s Tories, after their winning candidate in the Uxbridge and South Ruislip by-election last week, Steve Tuckwell, said the vote had been called a “referendum on ULEZ”.

Opposition party leader Keir Starmer also clashed with Mr Khan over the policy.

Here’s what Mr Khan had to say about the ruling on TV:

He also published a statement:

Here’s a pertinent comment:

That’s the important take-away from this storm-under-a-petrol-cap: fewer than one-tenth of vehicle owners will be affected by the ULEZ expansion.

That means both Labour and the Tories have been flinging blame about nothing.

It also means that Keir Starmer needs to find another excuse for his loss in London, if he still wants to deflect attention away from his own failings as an Opposition party leader.

Rishi Sunak: he’s not known for being a Vox Political reader, but will he still be smiling if he chances upon this article?

Here’s this sunny Sunday’s info-dump  – and This Writer hopes it doesn’t cast a cloud over your mood.

Rishi Sunak won’t give public money to UK schools but with his wife has given $2.4 million to a wealthy US college

There will be more on ‘Eat Out to Die Out’ in another Vox Political article later today (June 4, 2023).

Is pre-election tax cut plan the reason for Rishi Sunak’s current war on sickness and disability benefits?

Tory MP begs Rishi Sunak to quit the European Convention on Human Rights – confusing it with the EU

For information: Andrea Jenkyns is a Tory MP who is currently deputy chairwoman of the Brexiteer European Research Group (ERG). Her claim that other Tories got the leader they wanted in Rishi Sunak suggests a developing schism among Tory MPs that could split the party as it grows – and let’s hope it does.

She certainly seems to be trying to undermine Sunak, with a letter that confuses the European Convention on (and Court of) Human Rights with the European Union and European Court of Justice.

For information: UK citizens have never – at the time of writing – voted to relinquish their rights to a free and fair trial, democratic elections, freedom of association (that is, the right to meet anybody we want to), privacy, or any of the others that the Convention upholds.

TWITTER catches Boris Johnson lying about the reason for London police station closures

DWP and police target criminal gangs involved in benefit fraud. What about those involved in tax evasion?

The video has been released after the Daily Telegraph published an online calculator to show readers how much of their salaries is being used to pay social security benefits in what many have dubbed an act of Nazi-style hate crime.

The argument against these acts by the government, police and media is simple: tax evasion costs the UK far more than benefit fraud and error but is investigated by far fewer people and nobody (to This Writer’s knowledge) has ever been arrested in a video clip. Here are some facts:

Corporate profits have nearly doubled since 2019 while average wages are lower than in 2007. Why are the government, Bank of England and bosses blaming wage rises for inflation?
