Rumours of second ShadCab rebellion may be greatly exaggerated
Look at this:
Jeremy Corbyn was last night facing a second Shadow Cabinet rebellion in less than a week as some of his closest allies prepared to call for him to go.
Six members of his new-look Shadow Cabinet, including several only appointed on Monday, plan to meet with the beleaguered Labour leader .
They include Shadow Home Secretary Andy Burnham and Corbyn ally Clive Lewis, who was only promoted to Shadow Defence Secretary this week.

It seems bad for embattled Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, doesn’t it?
Except… look at this:
Who do you believe?
In this matter, I reckon I’ll trust Andy Burnham.

i hope jc sticks it out otherwise the labour partys finished
They’ve lost. It’s that simple. They’re pursuing one, final push but they’re on the low ground trying to attack up the side of a steep mountain. The Blair years are, without a shadow of a doubt, over.
– They can’t oust him via a no confidence coup.
– They’ve already lost a leadership race, even before you consider the 60,000+ members who’ve joined to shore up Corbyn’s position.
– The NEC is pro-Corbyn. 95% of CLPs are pro-Corbyn ( including, you may like to know, our own in Radnorshire ( I emailed Robin Lewis at the start of the week, and he made it clear that the CLP currently supports Corbyn with intentions to discuss the matter on July 16th in Brecon ).
– Chilcott is due in a week, and I’m guessing that once it lands all steam will run out of the coup as the leaders find themselves under intense pressure and scrutiny. We know that the other 130 or so MPs involved are only involved because they have had their arms twisted. If you listen to what most of them say, it has less to do with Corbyn and more to do with the fact that Progress are saying “if you back our guy, you’ll be on tele more”.
My own personal opinion is that once Chilcott drops, Eagle and co will lose all steam, Mandleson will come under huge pressure to shut his trap, and Progress will be destroyed. At that point, the remaining members of the PLP will have two choice: continue to push the coup, and risk the reintroduction of a deselection/reselection process that will ruin their careers wholesale ( which many CLPs are already calling for ), or abandon their efforts and realise that the days of authoritarian, top-down Labour are over. I’m betting a large chunk will be cowards and take that latter option.
We live in interesting times.
I think deselection/reselection will have to come in soon, no matter what the result of this.
As for the Brecon and Radnorshire CLP, I think July 16 is too long to wait and we should have a special meeting about this. Trouble is, even that takes time. I’m envious of places like Tottenham and Wallasey, who have been able to discuss these matters as they’ve been happening and get decisions out straight away.
The whole point of this propaganda “probably” initiated by right wing labour, is to sow discord, uncertainty and fear. Until I hear otherwise I will await JC’s announcement on what HE intends to do next and sod the rest of the right wingers. I hope deselection/reselection is on the cards because without it the Labour Party is finished. It’s only hope is to keep the name, keep the unions on side and fill constituency seats with younger and more robust eager minds who see politics as a vocation rather than as a nice little earner.
