Issues for young voters – Channel 4 News

Here’s a graph showing the proportion of young voters who care about particular issues, as reported by Channel 4 News.

It’s looking bad for the Coalition parties, isn’t it?

Look at the most important items – the cost of living, affordable housing, unemployment, the NHS and income inequality – all problems that have worsened due to Coalition policies.

Look at the least important – transport, the EU, immigration – topics that the Coalition try to push in our faces all the time.

Is this why the current government has moved to ensure fewer young people register to vote, by changing the rules so that colleges can no longer automatically register their students, acting as ‘heads of households’?

“Is this why the current government has moved to ensure fewer young people register to vote,…”

    Maybe not

It could simply be that the tories and their lapdogs dislike the concept of ‘votes’ and ‘elected representatives’ in general

They didn’t like it too much a couple of hundred years ago, and that’s where they want to drag the country back to

It was much easier for them (they think) when they could mess things up, ruin lives and cause misery without having to worry about keeping their seats.

In those days they only needed to keep one patron happy……

Spot on with the change in voter registration Mike they are taking students for the fool. Hopefully the student unions will get onto this if they haven’t already.

It seems many student unions are trying to get young people to vote as we speak :)

That’s interesting; I hadn’t seen this information before and it shows that anybody currently on the register will be able to vote.
The concern over young people not registering is still relevant because anyone aged 18-23 next year will be able to vote for the first time – but only if they’ve registered. They need to get on the register before anyone can think of removing them from it.

The Tories are hoping there won’t be enough of them to make a difference, I think.

I think as responsible individuals we should try and educate the younger generation as to what is really going on, I for one will be sending some grim home truth Blogs from VP and others to my many nephews, nieces and grandchildren insisting they stand up for justice before it’s too late. Open their eyes to what is really going to affect them in their future lives.
