The Beast has information to add to Vox Political‘s exposure of Tory attempts to smear Leftie journo Owen Jones, courtesy of Private Eye.

Last week, as 510,000 a year starved to death thanks to Tory benefit cuts, the party held a lavish fund-raising event. One of the items auctioned was a small, bronze statue of Maggie Thatcher. To show just how much obscene wealth there was there, that went for the best part of a quarter of a million. As John Lennon said at the Royal Variety Performance, ‘There’s no need to clap; just rattle your jewellery.’

Guido, or Paul Staines, as he is also known… also attended the fundraiser, and the Eye points out that he has previous in this. Last year he apparently held a party to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his own sorry blog. Guests included a number of Tory MPs, Boris Johnson, and a video tribute by David Cameron. He also was one of the guests at another Tory fundraiser at Old Billingsgate Market. The guest list for this bun fight was kept rigorously secret, and the only member of the press invited was Staines.

The article goes on to mention links between Mr Staines and other sordid right-wing groups, concluding that he isn’t so much the voice of ‘anti-politics’ as the voice of ‘extremely establishment politics’.

Staines wouldn’t, by any twisted, deranged stretch of horror-riddled imagination be linked in any way whatsoever with *that* SNP-supporting excuse of a website… would he?

[I haven’t progressed to the Beast’s blog yet as this piece has got me shaking in anger as certain pennies drop]

No – Guido’s quite a large concern. I think it was suggested on R4 that he gets 250,000 hits a week or thereabouts.
      If that’s true, I can’t imagine why.

At first when you set up your blog and he made comments, I thought he was playing devil’s advocate, but when his comments continued to be disgustingly right-wing I stopped reading his comments.

Curious though the original Guido Fawkes tried to bravely fight the establishment, this moron is too busy ingratiating himself to the very establishment, that should be put down!!!

That was a different person, I think, using the same pseudonym.
I haven’t thought about her in a long time!

What on earth makes that link in your obviously twisted head? If you must be one of those folk who use any excuse for SNP-bashing, at least choose a post that is fractionally relevant.

Keep it civilised, Joan – otherwise you’re merely demonstrating that if anyone offends an SNP supporter, even slightly, then they won’t bother arguing their case but will go straight for verbal abuse.
And you don’t want to admit that, now, do you?

The voice of anti-establishment is actually the voice of the tory establishment. Yes, that’s the way with public relations work. You create an image of what you stand for that is the opposite of what you actually want to achieve. It is meant to through the people off the real argument. As friendly newspaper owners then debate whether what the party states it’s for is right for Britain rather than whether what the Tories actually want is the right policy. I suspect this is the knowledge the Prime minister, with his knowledge of P.R. and super expensive education, has brought to his party and British politics.

Here’s a bit of gossip that you should perhaps be aware of, told to me by a good friend. At a conference today in central London, the Labour Party’s most generous donor suggested that it was ‘a tactical error’ pre-General election for the said Party not to promise a referendum on Britain’s continued membership of the EU.

You mean a businessman named John Mills. It isn’t gossip; it’s factually accurate. Well done, Guy!
      Article on the way.
