‘Discourteous and incompetant’? That’s an accurate description of hapless business secretary Sajid Javid

Sajid Javid? No – this is The Collector, from the Doctor Who serial The Sun Makers, but it’s an easy mistake to make.

Just remember, when useless Tory fools like Sajid Javid get hauled into Parliament to account for their ineptitude: We all had a chance to get rid of them, and we let them con their way back into office instead.

It’s a responsibility we must all bear. Some of us didn’t campaign strongly enough against the Tories. Some of us didn’t bother to vote against them. Worst of all, some of us actually voted for them, out of selfishness or gullibility.

Now we may all repent at leisure, as the remnant of British industry – smashed to pieces by Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s in a plan she concocted with leading Tories in the previous decade – is finally reduced to ashes.

Furious MPs urged Tory right-winger Sajid Javid to take swift action to save the British steel industry as 1,200 more redundancies were announced today .

The Business Secretary faced anger from all sides as he was dragged to the House of Commons following the sackings by Tata Steel in Scunthorpe and Lanarkshire.

“We’ve been hearing warm words from this Government for years. We need action now,” raged Scunthorpe’s Labour MP Nic Dakin.

Tory backbencher Martin Vickers told him the latest sackings were a “hammer blow” for the local areas.

More than 5,000 steel jobs have been lost in the past few weeks.

In the Commons, Mr Javid drew gasps from angry Labour MPs as he insisted the Government was “doing everything in its power” to support the industry [and] would try to increase the number of public projects which use British steel.

“We will drive up the number of public procurement contracts won by UK steel manufacturers and their partners,” the top Tory said.

He all but admitted other EU countries have been more effective at supporting their own industries.

And he vowed to travel to Brussels next week to try to speed up the EU response to the crisis.

But there were no firm commitments from the Business Secretary, and Labour and the Scottish National Party MPs raged at his empty words.

Firebrand Labour MP Dennis Skinner blasted: “The closures are spreading like wildfire. Stop this carnage, or give way to somebody who can make a difference”

Yorkshire MP Angela Smith told Mr Javid his response was “woefully inadequate”.

And the SNP’s Marion Fellows, who has seen hundreds of job losses in her Motherwell constituency today, said it was “disgraceful” Mr Javid did not even mention Scotland in his response to Labour’s urgent question.

Even Speaker John Bercow slammed the Business Secretary as “discourteous and incompetent” for not coming to the House unprompted to make a proper statement to MPs.

Javid reminds me of Uncle Fester, but unlike Fester he’s far too dim to light an electric bulb. On a more serious note, look at how Camoron sold our steel industry down the river while toadying to the Chinese this week. Javid won’t help Redcar, Scunthorpe or Lanarkshire because the Chinese are supplying the steel for Camoron’s vanity HS2 white elephant.

Could be they will demote or transfer him out of harms way….they are actually looking for someone really useless to remove rather than their favourite hit men Herr Smith
    and that Hunt.

The Tories are still gloating, their arrogance is plain to see.
