Hundreds of consultants tell Jeremy Hunt they back junior doctors’ strike

Last Updated: November 14, 2015By

In a letter to the Guardian, the 505 consultants, who will bear the brunt of any potential strike, say they recognise that junior doctors are an integral part of the health service.

“An empowered, rested, happy and appropriately remunerated workforce across all cadres of medical, nursing and allied health professional staff is essential to sustain high clinical standards in the face of increasingly complex healthcare delivery challenges,” they add.

“We regret, yet clearly understand, that public protest and possible industrial action by doctors has become necessary to safeguard these basic requirements.”

Quite literally. over the next few months, my life could be put at risk by this government’s intransigence and how it has forced junior doctors to take action, but I support it 100 per cent. For in the long-run, if it is successful, it will help prevent the flow of doctors to other countries, maintain their ability to work without the risk of fatigue-induced errors and so severely reduce the NHS’s ability to maintain my wife and children’s health. To do otherwise would be to be negligent as a parent and British citizen.

Fully support the Doctors in this, and anyone else who stops Hunt’s relentless destruction of the NHS as well.
