Trade minister lies to the UK about ‘pact’ with Texas
Tory trade minister Greg Hands wants you to think the UK has signed a trade deal with Texas worth trillions of pounds. It’s a bare-faced lie.
Here’s what he has said, followed by two responses debunking him completely:
Greg, you do understand that this trade 'pact' is just a memorandum of understanding. It means absolutely nothing. Texas is not a sovereign state and does not have the power to agree to trade tariffs. External trade is federal legislation. Stop lying!

This is nonsense on steroids.
1) It's a non-binding memorandum of understanding, not a trade deal.
2) The size of the two economies is a massive red herring. It's as misleading as describing buying a chocolate bar from Tesco as a billion pound deal because of its market cap. https://t.co/7iXcwt7DE8

The Tory government is currently in freefall after a series of controversies, with MPs calling for a change of leadership.
But it is lies like this that make them unelectable.
