The countdown has begun.
From November 1, Vox Political will switch to publishing one free public article each day — and the rest of my reporting and analysis will move to The Whip Line on Substack.
In just seven days, everything changes: Vox Political will stay open for a daily headline piece, but the full depth of my journalism — the investigations, the background stories, and the detailed commentary — will live on The Whip Line.
For more than a decade, I’ve provided free political journalism every day. But under the current economic conditions, that’s no longer sustainable. Independent work needs independent support — and that’s why I’m now asking those who value what I do to subscribe to The Whip Line.
Paid subscription ensures I can keep producing the depth and frequency of analysis you’ve come to expect. You’ll still get at least one free daily piece, but the complete range of stories and insight will be exclusive to subscribers.
The Whip Line does offer free subscription alongside the paid model – but it will only entitle readers to the free article I’ll publish every day.
Vox Political mailing list members will be migrated automatically onto a new list for The Whip Line, so those of you on that list can sample what is available on the new site – unless you choose to opt out.
Supporters who have been donating through PayPal or Stripe are encouraged to cancel those payments and move their support to Substack instead, where you’ll also receive all the subscriber-only content. You are welcome to continue
This change is about survival; I have to do this, and I need paid subscribers in order to keep going — but it is also about renewal.
The Whip Line will let me continue the kind of journalism that cuts through the spin, challenges the powerful, and keeps readers properly informed.
The countdown is on — subscribe now to make sure you don’t miss a thing:
The Whip Line.
