Labour shelves plans to complete leadership election by summer | Politics | The Guardian

Contest timetable extended after union leaders admit to needing more time to recruit political levy payers to register as party supporters – and so have a vote.

It has been agreed that the result should not be announced at the party’s annual conference starting on 27 or 28 September but at a special conference a fortnight before or after.

The election is being held by a new system agreed in February 2014 and to be overseen by the Electoral Reform Services.

So there’ll be no coherent opposition from Labour for ages then. No doubt the SNP will leap into this ready-made breach. Good luck to them too. Labour’s only been around since 1900. It’s beginning to look like a flash in the pan.

You think the SNP will do anything at all?

That would be a pleasant surprise!
