How obeying the law will no longer be enough to protect you from the police – Mirror Online
This sentence from the Tory leader is particularly chilling:
“For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens ‘as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone’.”
Obeying the law will no longer be enough to be enough to ensure you escape retribution by the authorities.
Even if you are not suspected of committing any crime, you could be hit by orders preventing you from speaking in public or associating with specific people.
The planned “snooper’s charter” will give the police the right to read your private messages, even if you’re not suspected of any wrongdoing.
Now, it seems that if they see anything they don’t like #even if it isn’t criminal# they won’t be obliged to leave you alone.
We know that the Tory government are also planning to scrap the current Human Rights Act and replace it with one that would introduce a “threshold below which Convention [human] rights will not be engaged” – allowing UK courts to strike out certain cases.
This could leave you with no legal recourse to challenge any controls you are subject to.

What’s to stop the police from arresting anyone they don’t like?
Nothing :(
Much as I hate the LibDems for allowing the last Tory regime into office, without their tiny amount of control, the beast is now truly unleashed. The man’s only understanding of “Freedom” is for “Freedom” to apply to all that agree with him; all those that don’t are self-evidently criminals. I’ve got news for you, THICKO: FREEDOM includes people with DIFFERENT opinions to your own.
Very scary,I guess we’re all of to jail then guys.
So damned if you do and damned if you don’t? I read this and thought about films I’d watched such as V for vendetta and the Matrix; they don’t seem so far fetched now do they? This is why the tories want to scrap the Human Rights Act so no one has any recourse to remedy the situation they may find themselves in.
V for Vendetta and the Matrix – doesn’t science fiction becomes science fact in most cases?
In many, yes.
V for Vendetta isn’t really science fiction, though. It’s set in a future, fascist Britain, but it’s more a political… speculation? Perhaps we don’t have the right terminology for it. Perhaps I’ll look up Alan Moore’s description.
I think that is what is happening …
It’s ALREADY happening folks. Research Robert Green or the Hampstead case just for starters.
