Unions Must Mobilise To Support Disabled People, Says TUC | Welfare Weekly
Trade unions must mobilise to support disabled people in securing a “better deal” in workplaces and from the UK government, says the TUC.
TUC General Secretary, Frances O’Grady, said the new Conservative Minister for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson, “must show respect for those who want to work and compassion for those who can’t”.
“A good place for the new government to start would be restoring the Access to Work budget so that disabled people get support for the full cost of the workplace adaptations they need”, said Frances O’Grady.
“And, more fundamentally, the government needs to explain exactly how it will keep its promise that the planned £12bn worth of welfare cuts won’t hurt disabled people.”

Compassion and decency to fellow humans are not part of the Nasty Party’s mindset.
I hope we hear a lot more about this promotion by the Unions as it is one of the most important, and yet previously ignored, neglects of this government
The unions have been too weak on most issues for the last few decades, as far as I’m concerned.
Not really the unions being weak. They were weakened and clobbered by Thatcher and then with privatisation and the disappearance of the manufacturing sector they lost even more power.
They have been demonised as well.
Join a union and if you are a member, make sure this is kept to the forefront.
When all the dots are joined over the last 30 years it will be seen that this has been a very carefully planned assault on working people and national assets from every angle.
We can change that.
