New bid to reverse Tory health and social care law
With the Tories on the most slender of Parliamentary majorities, is it the right time for this?
Caroline Lucas, the Green party’s only MP, will present a bill to parliament which aims to reverse large parts of the last government’s Health and Social Care Act 2012.
The private members bill, named the NHS reinstatement bill, has received cross-party support, including the backing of Labour leadership candidate Jeremy Corbyn, Liberal Democrat MP John Pugh and the SNP’s health spokesperson Philippa Whitford.
The bill would reinstate the secretary of state’s responsibility for the health of UK citizens, something the Health and Social Care Act removed. It would also abolish bodies such as NHS trusts, NHS foundation trusts and clinical commissioning groups, allowing commercial companies to provide services only if they were essential to patient welfare and the NHS could not do so itself.

Sadly this private members bill will not get anywhere.
The Tory government owes a huge amount to its financial backers and one of the ways to pay them off is to allow them to make huge profits by privatising large swathes of our NHS.
Given the changes to the NHS that TTIP would make possible, I reckon it’s imperative that as much is pushed in a Public Sector direction beforehand as can be done.
So why the devil aren’t Labour taking initiatives like this?
Because they are entirely pro eussr and as such have to accept such abominations as TTIP without comment because they can’t be seen to be pro Britain.
Not true – Labour is against the TTIP, as you’ll see if tomorrow’s vote actually takes place.
Should this not be the Labour party’s job?
Mike. When isn’t it “the right time” to appose Tory legislation? The SNP will support Caroline Lucas Bill as well as Labour, so whats the problem?
What problem?
I was hoping people would come back and say, “Yes”.
I say “yes” but was hoping that the Labour Party would have initiated such a challenge. For too long it has followed rather than led.
The Labour party will not back it.
How do you know?
I think you’re just pushing your usual anti-Labour stance.
This is the right time. If not now then when?
Is there a link to sign her bill?
It’s a Parliamentary Bill, not a petition. You don’t do anything – the MPs do it all.
Write to your M.P. asking them to back the bill I did unfortunately my M.P. was part of the tema that wrote the abysmal 2012 act.
Simple it,sa yes from me :-)
