The number of disability related hate crimes reported to police has soared by a shocking 25% in only a year, according to new figures published today.

Figures published by the Home Office reveal that 2,508 disability motivated hate crimes were reported and recorded by the police in 2014/15, up 25% from 2,006 in 2013/14.

The report says ‘improved willingness of victims to come forward is likely to be a factor in the increase in hate crimes recorded by the police’. Critics blame welfare cuts and the negative portrayal of disabled people in the media.

The Crime Survey for England and Wales also includes unreported cases, which reveals that disability is now the second most common motivating factor behind all hate crimes.

According to the survey, there were an average of 70,000 incidents of disability hate crime per year between 2012 to 2015, including unreported/unrecorded cases, compared to 106,000 for racially motivated hate crime.

Not at all surprised by this news. For years now the Tory Party has done nothing but spread hatred a division. It continues to do so.

Obviously people think, because the government are giving us a kicking, it is okay for others to do so.

Does this mean we can report the Government for it too? Considering that they are the instigators in the first place.

The Tories keep saying any organization that spreads hate should be criminalised imprisoned and banned. Yet this evil criminal dictatorial b*****d so called government do it on a daily basis. It shows what sort of society Britain has been made under the Tories . Disgusting cowards. When is Insidious Duncan Schmidt going to do his prison time. Also our Prime Mincer Mr Pink, that sickly Gideon spank me harder Osborne and Lilly Savages brother Terry May. There you go the 4 Judges.

The Nazis started putting out negative propaganda against the Jews, and many Christians got swept up in anti-semitism. The Torie and their Media Cronies have done the same here.

I hope these figures are given to the UN Representative when she visits…any day now!

Elfie. Actually Jews in this country did just that, in demanding from the government what they were going to do to help protect Jews and make them feel safe in this country, after the Charlie Hebdo attacks. The governments response was to right to the Imams in this country and tell them to somehow control the rising tide of Muslim disaffection. They did it again when British Muslims went over to ISIS. However, they have not written to the Bishops to control the Christians in this country to somehow stop the discrimination by non Muslims against the Disabled. This government has gone out of it’s way to support Israel’s apartheid and nazi regime, been blatantly Islamaphobic and shown total disregard for the poor, the unemployed and the disabled, yet some people still ask the question “when is this government going to stop harassment of the poor and disabled”. The answer is, of course, it will not because they are the ones who engineered it.

Radicalised Muslims attacking Jews is not the same as people (of whatever religion) attack the disabled. How do you know hate crime against the disabled is carried out by Christians alone? You don’t.
Come to that, why do people say only radicalised Muslims attack Jews? There’s a lot of anti-Semitism out there, you know.

This is appalling and those guilty of perpetrating or fomenting this should be severely punished. Sadly the DWP, IDS, the NHS, Hunt, Patel and many others have denigrated people with disabilities, blaming them for not working etc. This has encouraged a atmosphere of contempt and mistrust of people with disabilities and the idiots think that they can attack these people with impunity.

Intolerance is an aggravating circumstance in crimes and should be given exemplary punishments

Thanks – it’s saying pretty much the same as the article I reblogged, which also notes that while reports have soared, incidents may not have increased at all – or at least, not by that much.
It doesn’t mean the situation isn’t worth paying any attention, though. Reports of paedophilia were few and far between at one time. Now that more people are actually plucking up the courage to publicise these crimes, it is becoming more possible to actually do something about them.
As for that, the same for disability hate crime – let’s hope.

It’s an important distinction. The new way of recording reported crime is to register the incident as reported in the first instant by the person reporting. Therefore if the person reports an assault/victimisation and attributes it to disability then that’s how it will be recorded. This has inevitably led to an apparent rise in incidents of all sorts of offences.

I’ve discussed this with my local Police and Crime Commissioner as there was an apparent boom in offences in my area.

The new way of reporting more closely reflects people’s actual experience of crime than did the old method where many reports were left out of the figures for a variety of reasons.

These new figures still lag behind the figures discovered when surveys are conducted into people’s experience of crime but they are a lot nearer those figures.

Cameron incessant “for hardworking people” mantra by definition discriminates against those who can not work, he clearly isn’t for the disabled unemployed or retired is he?
