Missing benefits claimants risk DEATH, not destitution
Frank Field is right to highlight the question of the benefit claimants who are sanctioned out of their income every year – but he is mistaken about the effect on them.
They are unknowing participants in a war of extermination being waged by the Conservative Government against those who are unable to work.
The relevant phrase is “chequebook euthanasia”.
The report, co-authored by Mr Field and Andrew Forsey, head of his Parliamentary office, stated: “It is unacceptable, not only for this government, but for its predecessor and those who will follow, to take away benefit from a mass of people each year and not trouble themselves with how this army of people survive.” That is the view of This Blog, also.
Long-term readers of this blog will be aware that after I won a battle, lasting more than a year, to force the government to reveal the number of benefit claimants who have died since November 2011, the one group of people it could not count was those who had left the system due to sanction or having been found “fit for work” – the DWP simply does not monitor what happens to them.
More than a million benefits claimants may be facing destitution after disappearing from the welfare system, Labour ex-minister Frank Field claims.
Sanctions are being applied “at a scale unknown since the Second World War” and the fate of at least a third of those hit “is anybody’s guess”, he said.
He says a government survey is needed to track the whereabouts of those dropping off the roll.
But the Department of Work and Pensions says the claims have “no basis”.
About 1.5 million people leave the welfare system each year, but it is unclear how many are left without work or benefit payments, according to Mr Field, who chairs the influential Commons Work and Pensions select committee.

The Tory’s are driven by greed, selfishness and hatred. They will do everything in their power to “eliminate” those they hate. They are Nazis disguised as a political party.
How soon before the unemployed have to wear armbands with DSS CLAIMANT displayed on it!
“DWP CLAIMANT”, you mean.
Or sanctioned disempowered and reviled by DWP to be more accurate.
yes there is a witchhunt on benefit claimants and the disabled. Reminds of another era in history and shows we have not yet learned from the holocaust in Germany.

All the tories care about are themselves and their fellow inbred, perverted, rich, out of touch friends!
Reported in the DNS feed service today was an article about prejudce against disabilty in the employment market. Tory MP Maynard told MPs in a debate “I am equally proud of the fact that, over the past two years, we have got 340,000 more disabled people into employment.”

Now knock me down with a feather, but 340,000 disabled people found work by the Tories in two years????? Where on earth did this figure come from? It sounds a lot like the number of disabled who have gone missing from the system after sanction or loss of benefit. I hope someone can wise up old Frank, especially given his right-leaning politics, about the issue now being death, destitution, and wrongly included in the working statistics scandal.
