Tories and Liberal Democrats come out in favour of underpaying workers

Last Updated: January 17, 2016By

Look at the comments at the end. The Liberal Democrat leader calls fair pay an “egalitarian fantasy”. The Tories say fair pay threatens our “economic security”.

In fact, it has been proven that a fair deal for workers increases not only the quality of their product but the speed of production and, ultimately, profit.

So the Tories and Liberal Democrats represent the clear danger to the UK economy.

A Labour government could ban companies from paying dividends to shareholders unless they pay workers the living wage, Jeremy Corbyn has said.

He said in a speech to a think tank too much profit from economic growth had gone to those at the top of society.

The Labour leader was explaining his strategy to tackle pay inequality and “institutionalise fairness” in Britain.

He later told the Unite union in Scotland the Tories wanted to “tip the scales further” in favour of bosses.

Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said Mr Corbyn “seems committed on ripping apart our business sector in pursuit of an egalitarian fantasy”. A Conservative Party spokesman called Labour a “clear threat to our economic security”.

I don’t believe the Tory and Lib Dem dogmatic adherence to pre-conceived ideology based on false premise. The exchequer needs taxes, Osborne and IDS want to cut welfare dependence and the unemployed need jobs that pay. All of these factors can only be delivered if people are paid enough to live on without a much reduced reliance on welfare. The cost of providing welfare to the jobless, the self employed and the zero hour contract employees.coupled with tackling gross tax evasion and corporate tax avoidance and investment in a strong economy are what is needed. If people have money they can spend it PAYE is a progressive tax which benefits all as long as the government is willing to tackle the inequality that currently exists with regard to progressive and regressive taxes VAT and Council Tax to fund investment in businesses, small and large. We now know that the deficit is not going to be reduced as Osborne emphatically announced it would be, so why print more money to throw at policies which cost a lot and offer no gain. As long as we have this low waged economy which encompasses more than 20 million, how pray tell, is the government ever going to bring in the receipts it needs to pay the debt it incurs? The rich do not spend their money it gets hoarded, so no help from that quarter. Why have we got a janitor managing the world’s fifth largest economy?

It appears to have fallen into the spam file. Nothing to do with me – WordPress has its own methods of weeding out spam. Anyway I have dug it out and will moderate it shortly.
Incidentally, what happened here is different from the other commenters who have complained about their posts being deleted. For clarity, those other posts had not been deleted and those people were simply trying to cause trouble and push me into publishing their words. Ironically, if they had kept quiet, I probably would have.

its funny how someone like myself who has no qualifications whatsoever about running an economy can actually come up with a better economic plan than Osborne..

in fact l think its as plain as day to pretty much everyone.. the wealthy seem to think they are what makes a country run and seem to think that they should be able to pay whatever they like to their workers..

problem is its not the wealthy who make an economy work, its us!! when we spend our money, problem is when we cant spend no one else can and that means production dries up and jobs are lost.

To be fair, Osborne hasn’t got a qualification in economics either …

Approaching my seventieth birthday I felt sick to my stomach to hear two national parties expounding their support for greater inequality and enforced poverty for so many of the poor and vulnerable. How low is this country going to sink morally before we join the ranks of the worst brutal regimes in the world.

We appear as a nation to have lost any sense of decency in how we treat ordinary working people and this is compounded by attacking the only decent politician that stands up to this brutality, Jeremy Corbyn.

Surely it is time for a change as another 5 years of this brutality will destroy the nation and make for a life that is “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.”

Who the hell cares what the Lib Dems have to say, they’re as dead as the dodo, no one gives a toss about them anymore and of course the tories will whinge about fair pay, they don’t believe in fairness period!

I think you will find if you look carefully at the past that most working people lived the life you describe. There was a blip after ww2 when Labour introduced a decent standard of life for all, the NHS, council housing and social security. The tories are getting things back on track- for the landowners and the wealthy and the rest of can fight for the crumbs as the Hunger Games so aptly describe it.
We can change it, it can be done but they are much warier and cannier this time and using every trick in the book to make sure all the gains in the last 100 years are annulled.

So maybe this time instead of the velvet revolution it has to be achieved through much more bloodshed and physical action?
