As David Cameron’s powers wane, he will struggle to secure the legacy he wants

David Cameron has been Prime Minister for nearly six years and Conservative Party leader for more than ten (only Stanley Baldwin, Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher served longer in the 20th century).
After a second honeymoon following his election victory last year, he is exhibiting the classic symptoms of decay. His approval ratings are falling, his MPs are rebelling and his mistakes are accumulating. Once the public and the media judge a prime minister to be on a downward trajectory, they become less tolerant of the events and scandals that periodically buffet a government (as Iain Duncan Smith’s resignation, the steel crisis and the Panama Papers have).
Every misstep serves as confirmation of political putrefaction.He will be recalled as a politician of indisputable skill.
But for what purpose were his gifts deployed?
The political space for Cameron to provide a better answer than his foes is shrinking.

The only legacy he is going to leave behind is that he was an incompetent, useless, arrogant, pompous, greedy, corrupt, deceitful and pathetic excuse of a leader, a politician and a man!

Let me run a National Debt of over £half a trillion in under 5 years and I’ll show you my indisputable skill at hiding the disaster that is inevitable. Plus, I’ll show you a better time until then than Cameron has.
Legacy? What legacy? Memories of mayhem among the poor and vulnerable and the rich getting richer exponentially. That’ll be his legacy.
Undoubtedly Cameron’s ideals have been lofty, albeit, distasteful. His problem will be falling from a height equal to his rise. If he thinks his future will be rosy after premiership, he should think again.
I regret that I have been unable to find any redeeming qualities in Dodgy Dave. Not one good thing springs to mind about this mendacious opinionated irrelevance!
He will not be remembered as a great leader but as a shirker who had ducked away from Britain’s real economical problems and had caused as much poverty for the poor since thatchers time?…his legacy will be about his offshore dishonesty the food banks for the homeless and his utter arrogance to comply with a decent Government?
I disagree that Cameron has displayed political skills.
yes he has lied, deceived the public and used evasive approaches to avoid accountability. my personal perception is that a majority of uk people despise him. Apathy by the electorate, distrusting the election and voting systems explain his position as PM.
Remember he’ s elected by a greed – driven minority and moronic tory voters.
hes a yes man to the USA has no credibility in europe lacks integrity, has no moral compass and pressurises a contingent of weak self interested tory MPs to do his bidding. These MPs will be using Nurenberg defences to explain their weaknesses when they seek leadership and cabinet positions.
camerons divisive policies serving transfer of wealth from the rich to poor, and his deceitful approach in government are now being gradually recognised by those affected by his policies.
he wants to avoid the legacy of dividing the UK and wants to transfer blame to the EU.
Brexit success justifies his resignation and this is convenient for the tory party leadership contest with comparable Yes tories intending to engratiate themselves with the USA and EU
this will become problemmatic for any succeeding leader in any party.
this chaos is his legacy.
Dismissal not resignation should be his ‘ reward’ possible imprisonment or indictment due to his personal tax evasion over many years. War crimes is also likely if all details are made accessible.
these circumstances are undoubtedly not indicators of political skills.
