Why we need trade unions – and why Conservatives hate them
This Writer was out canvassing for the Labour Party in Builth Wells on Friday with one of our brightest young members when she had an encounter with a Conservative supporter as follows:
My friend asked the lady concerned which way she was likely to vote in the Welsh Assembly elections, and the gentlewoman replied that she couldn’t possibly vote Labour after what the unions did to the country. “That happened long before you were born,” she added.
I was reminded of the incident this evening when ‘Utopian Fireman’ tweeted the images accompanying this article. They explain why Tories hate unions, and why the UK needs them more than ever before.

The Union bill is not needed. i want to see the working man given more power and political power of MPs more restricted.
Unions are absolutely essential in order to fight exploitation, corruption and greed.
Joining and being a member of a trade union is an absolute no brainer. Interesting that courts are now dealing with unfair dismissal cases whre the union and management would often sort things out in house.
Problem with unions is nowadays when you contact them regarding work related disputes they normally keep you waiting for weeks then fob you off. That`s why I stopped my subscription.
The unions care about the people, the tories don’t, short, simple answer to this question.
