Spot the Labour mutineers in reports of PLP meetings

Jeremy Corbyn and Tom Watson in happier times. With hindsight we may conclude that Watson was probably deciding where he wanted to put his knife.

The LabourList blog has been shamefully supportive of the mutinous Labour MPs who have been stabbing democratically-elected leader Jeremy Corbyn in the back.

One useful aspect of this is that we can pick up details of the mutineers from that blog’s reports.

This one delivers us a deliberate falsehood from Tom Watson. If he had tried to “fix” the leadership crisis (and that rather depends on what he means by “fix”, doesn’t it?) then why did he call off talks with the unions for a silly reason?

He said over the weekend that it was because Mr Corbyn was refusing to step down, but Unite leader Len McCluskey has made it plain that this was never a condition.

John Mann’s position with regard to Jeremy Corbyn and his team, which includes Emily Thornberry, should be clear.

“I tried to fix this and I couldn’t”, said Watson, according to the Daily Mirror. Watson, who called off talks with Corbyn at the weekend, provided more details of his discussions, having previously said he was trying to “negotiate” the departure of the leader

At the same meeting tonight Emily Thornberry, the new shadow Foreign Secretary, provided an update to MPs on Labour’s stance towards Brexit… Backbencher John Mann left the meeting early saying he had heard enough of what he described as Thornberry’s “prattling on”.

Used to watch BBcQT and always liked Emily Thornbury even when I didn’t agree with what she was saying. I suppose I was convinced that she was essentially a very genuine person. Until I hear otherwise, I will continue to do so.
