Labour leader candidate to face deselection by party members in her constituency

It will be interesting to see how Angela Eagle proposes to be Labour leader if she doesn’t even have a constituency.

By the time Ms Eagle’s leadership campaign is really heating up, it seems she won’t have a Parliamentary seat to sit on.

Admittedly, she would be safe in the House of Commons until the next general election, so I suppose her political career depends on how mean the Conservatives are feeling.

It’s worth reminding readers that Tessa Jowell was the Labour politician who accused Wallasey CLP members of exposing Ms Eagle to intimidation and homophobic remarks, even though neither was at the CLP meeting where they were supposed to have happened.

As for Ms Eagle’s own comments about her constituency members: She may regret those words in the very near future.

As Angela Eagle launches her bid for leadership of the Labour party the Wallasey MP may also face deselection by her own local members.

The Wallasey constituency Labour Party (CLP) had urged the MP, and former Shadow Business Secretary, to support Jeremy Corbyn last month when plans for a vote of no confidence were first revealed.

But now Ms Eagle also faces a vote of no confidence, with an enlarged local party membership which has seen its numbers swelled since the prospect of a challenge against Corbyn first emerged.

Since June 24 vice chair of Wallasey CLP Paul Davies said they had seen their membership grow by 367 members to total more than 1,200.

The CLP’s executive [was] due to meet to prepare a meeting of the full membership, scheduled for July 22.

Mr Davies … added that some party members had been angered by accusations of intimidation and homophobic remarks made against others in the CLP, which they strongly deny.

Addressing the issue of disquiet in her local party at her leadership launch, Ms Eagle said: “There are some people who are making a noise, but they are a tiny minority of people who were thrown out in the 1990s, who have come back. I can cope with that.”

I’ve never been thrown out of the labour party, I only joined a couple of weeks ago.I’ve been a lifelong Labour voter but I already wrote to my local MP to tell her she’ll NEVER get my vote again if she stands for Labour in the future.Sharon Hodgson hasn’t replied to my email but I realise she probably has both hands full trying to keep hold of the knife she used to stab Corbyn (and those who want and need a change instead of politics as usual) in the back!
I’m angry that Labour doesn’t seem to want to do the right thing and winning seems to be EVERYTHING even if the policies they win by are NOT what benefits working people and those who’ve had a serious kicking from the Tories,Lib Dem and even “new” Labour!
We need a party that isn’t just Conservative or Lib Dem in a different coloured tie so we know who’s who!

Neat move. Bit of their own medicine will do their aspiring leader some good in not messing with the good folk who put her in the opposition party. Oh dear a lot of MPs with very short memory spans will not bode well for a charged up opposition.

All these MPs working at manipulating everythings to get Corbyn out, leave in a buble to the point that they are not capable to see or realise that in a short time they will have no constituants who listen to them or an office to go to.
They are not concern by the sheer number of people crying loud that they want Corbyn as their leader and nobodyelse for now.
They turn the blind eye and the deaf ear and too thick to realise that they will get the same if they come out to the street for canvass.
All that to protect their wealth after they made us believe they working and fighting for us the poor and the working poor, thanks to this referendum these rats are out to be seen and recognise.
The Labour party will never be the same and if you had the misfortune to have heard S. Kinnock today, he will wish he never said what he said (the mummy’s and daddy’s pet)

The “Corbyn is unelectable” rationale for pointlessly attempting to oust the Labour party’s preferred leader does indicate a lack of political savvy amongst the majority of the PLP. I wouldn’t say that they’re all Red Tory Blairite careerists, but too many of them are and during their open rebellion they’ve dragged some good MPs into their mutiny.

A lesser man faced with this situation would have crumbled long ago. It’s a testament to the hidden steel within Corbyn that he has faced off the challenges without losing his quiet confidence. I’m sure that millions of Brits also recognise that his enemies are right to fear him, despite over a year of constant attacks he’s still there.

I’m sure he has a plan, but if it included deselecting up to 172 MPs (ie all those who voted for the “no confidence” motion) to force resignations and by-elections, the Labour party could prove its electability by winning all the seats with real socialist candidates.
