More embarrassment for Owen Smith over Croydon CLP nomination ‘climbdown’
It seems clear that Owen Smith’s supporters have decided they aren’t going to get nominations for their candidate from constituency Labour parties by honest methods.

Now we have this, from Croydon North:
Officials in Croydon North Constituency Labour Party have been forced to make a humiliating climbdown over their attempts to stage a leadership nomination meeting which sought to exclude the vast majority of the area’s members.
Ann O’Connor, who was recently installed by the local MP, Steve Reed OBE, as the CLP chair, issued a somewhat sheepish email to members at lunchtime today, cancelling tomorrow evening’s meeting of delegates of the General Committee.
The Croydon North GC numbers fewer than 60. Croydon North CLP’s overall membership is 1,300.
By excluding the CLP’s membership from the meeting, there was strong suspicion that Reed and O’Connor wanted to endorse the candidacy for the Labour leadership of Owen Smith. Or what one ordinary member called “an absolute stitch-up”.

Well they are under handed liars and cheat is this what is needed in the Party
Argh! I keep trying to warn people that these CLP endorsements are ripe for manipulation (and something they can ‘use’ after their inevitable defeat when they move on to stage 72 of Operatiuon Remove Corbyn). Those who have been invited to one of these meetings, if they’re trying to restrict full membership involvement, should make every effort to release details, dates and times of these meetings to the wider party membership! They have this strange loophole where it seems ‘someone’ can decide that these decisions can be made by an (excessively narrow) ‘executive’.
Same apparently in West Ham – stitch up by delegate voting that doesn’t reflect the membership. Narrowly got JC through in Morecambe when only 8 people were allowed to vote out of the whole membership!!
