Post Factual Politics – an Update on #Brickgate – Investigation Complete – Nobody Arrested | Wirral In It Together
It seems they have identified no suspect, meaning they cannot comment on any motive for the crime.
At the time, Ms Eagle – and most, if not all, of the UK’s mainstream media – was quick to pin the blame on so-called ‘Corbynistas’ who support Jeremy Corbyn – although this was quickly exposed as a lie because she had no evidence to support the claim and the broken window was nowhere near her office.
I don’t know how many people support Jeremy Corbyn in Wallasey’s Constituency Labour Party but, with the police investigation ended and none of them having been accused, all of them may have a very strong case if they choose to take Ms Eagle – or the newspapers that supported her – to court for libel.
Ms Eagle had launched a leadership challenge against Jeremy Corbyn at the time of the alleged offence, and it seems likely that the news story generated adverse publicity against Mr Corbyn, his supporters and his own campaign.
And Wallasey CLP is currently suspended by the Labour Party, pending investigation into allegations of intimidation and homophobia that were made just before the organisation was able to hold a trigger ballot to deselect her as their Parliamentary candidate.
Put all those things together and Ms Eagle – together with the newspapers that supported her – could be in for a very hot time this autumn.
Thanks go to @AJobTracker – david morgan on Twitter – for checking the recently released crime stats for Wallasey, Merseyside – in particular the Manor Road / car park area where Angela Eagle’s constituency office is situated. The police have now completed their investigation and nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident (criminal damage).
We won’t be linking to any mainstream media coverage of this incident because 12+ large circulation newspapers became foreseeably and avoidably laced with falsehoods at the time.
The inaccurate content was centred around headlines faithfully telling us Angela Eagle’s constituency office – or the window to that office – had been smashed with a brick.
Even today, with our Daily Telegraph-centred complaint to IPSO now failed and forgotten, this post factual climate persists and dominates, with lies being built upon for their own ends by those with an axe to grind.
