Wallasey CLP to crowdfund defamation lawsuit against Angela Eagle and Labour’s NEC
See this, Labour NEC members? This is what you might call ‘biteback’:
It’s in all the mainstream media that Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC) – or, more correctly, a sub-committee named the Disputes Panel, has upheld Labour MP Angela Eagle’s allegation against her own CLP (Wallasey) that she was subjected to ‘homophobic abuse’. Wallasey CLP’s suspension, already in force for some months, has been extended indefinitely.
The SKWAWKBOX has spoken to a number of members of the CLP who are outraged at both the egregious nature of the slur, which amounts to an allegation of hate crimes, and at the implication that officers – who include members with gay children – failed to deal with, or even encouraged, ‘abuse’.
This writer understands that a number of CLP members are taking legal advice with a view to an action against Labour’s Disputes Panel and against Ms Eagle personally for defamation concerning the latter’s allegations of ‘homophobic abuse’ and will be seeking crowdfunding for the legal action in view of the huge financial support shown by Labour members and others for the court case brought by members disenfranchised during the recent leadership election.
A crowdfunding page is to be set up shortly and details will be posted on this blog and elsewhere. I urge you to support it.

Disgusting that this needs crowdfunding.
Vexatious Ms Eagle.
Why cant we hear what the actual allegations of homophobia are so some gay members can be the judge of this?
Any idea who sits on the Dispute Panel?
Darren Williams does, because he wrote a Facebook post about it. Beyond that – no.
Ann Black is one according to Sqwawkbox.
Oh, joy.

I’m up for that as soon as you can find the details, Mike
Good for them but its a shame the Labour Party as come to such low levels and as yet no heads have rolled
Legal involvement re:NEC and junior doctors does not inspire any confidence whatsoever.I have lost faith and believe the establishment controls outcomes, nudging and using highly dubious, imo, and exploiting nuance to deliver their’justice’.
I’m not sure fighting this through the courts is good for the Party, even if the report was wrongly leaked. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Better they make their case to supportive NEC members who can argue internally. If they want to crowdfund, they would be much better spending it on funding new PPC candidate training in the long-run
None of it is good for the party but it will keep happening as long as people like Angela Eagle and Tessa Jowell think they can achieve something for themselves by doing it. Unfortunately the internal route doesn’t seem to be much good as legitimate concerns are being turned away or shut down by bureaucrats. There is little point funding potential parliamentary candidate training if the party is pointing in the wrong direction.
Count me in with the crowdfunding – Your last comment is bang on the nail.
Eagle is in trouble with this….She could lose her seat, and it might bankrupt her also.
It;s important this is challenged by the Wallasey CLP because there is a case of defamation to answer….
