Theresa May thinks she can use soldiers to fight winter floods when what she really needs is a brain
The best way is to work with nature rather than against it, building up natural defences against flooding.
That means planting vegetation along waterways to slow down excess water, and building up land barriers where necessary, also.
There are examples of good practice – carried out independently, of course – springing up across the UK but the Tory Government is metaphorically sticking its fingers in its ears and staring out of the window – at the rain.

help communities and society as a whole distracts from helping the minority of extremely wealthy people with yet more tax cuts.
Well on one and its better they did something for the country instead of playing games around the world and waisting large amounts of money so now some of the money saved could be spent of the poor sick and disabled but on the other hand there should be not floods in this country with sick and greedy goverment and councils that waist money instead of getting real people to sort the problem and stop letting builders build on flood land
and councils or united utilities whoever is responsible, cleaning out drains might help.
As others have said there are simple and affordable solutions out there:
1) Dredge rivers regularly and cut back water weed growth
2) Clean out the drains
3) Use porous asphalt for car parks
4) Stop building on flood plains (there’s a clue in the name)
5) Stop burning grouse moors
6) Plant more trees on watersheds instead of grazing animals on them
7) Construct porous dams and bunds along waterways
8) Reintroduce beavers to the UK
most of the things happening in the uk today like floods or fly tipping are things that councils have taken out of council tax.
floods because councils dont clean the drains anymore, and fly tipping because coucils dont collect things like fridges,tv’s etc, which used to be collected under council tax,and now you have to pay extra for this.
what the hell are we paying all this council tax for, more and more money for less and less services.
its time the fat cat salaries and gold plated pensions that these people receive were cut back.no body in local government should receive more than MP’s for maybe running half a county.
not that i’m advocating MP’s should receive more, they get enough for how they are ruining this country, decades of not fit for use governments have ruined this country.
its time people rose up against all this corruption in the Westminster bubble, and got some REAL people in Parliament, and not the self servicing, career politicians we have today, who have never done a proper days work in their lives.
“Three battalions, ready to avert crisis after storms last year, caused severe damage across north of England.” Sorry, but I just had to add a couple of punctuation marks…x
