Maybe if this idea was seeded by the Cons they were already thinking about privatisation and transferring the ownership into the private markets and what better way to do it. The infrastructure and running of the complex comes already outsourced and buttoned up…..however the costs are horrific as this is the cash cow profit area. Agree pity that no Government was bright enough to see the long term consequences ………. all that glitters is not gold. Just wonder if any of these cash cows are on the secret hit list….hmmmm.

Unfortunately nu labour managed to have fr more pfi deals than the tories managed, it has always been a stupid idea that was supposed to work out cheaper but even someone who failed maths o level could have told them their figures didn’t add up.

Yes indeed. It turned out that, when New Labour took over in 1997, there really wasn’t any money in the Treasury, and both the health and education services were at death’s door.
So New Labour took the advice of the most senior civil servants in the Treasury and used PFI money to resurrect health and education. While our schools have enjoyed limited success as a result, the health service became the world’s top healthcare provider, with record levels of user satisfaction before the Conservatives meddled with it.
