Precious little snowflakes! Brexit bullies boil over Lineker’s bon mot
‘Leave’ supporters like to bully people who voted to remain in the EU (and still support it) as ‘Remoaners’. Perhaps we need to coin a derogatory term for their own complaining ways after this and all their other whinges.
The best This Writer can manage at short notice is “Quit-bblers”, which even I have to admit is stretching it a bit.
The joke was made by Mr Lineker on Have I Got News For You, and goes like this:
“Britain’s ambassador to the EU, Sir Ivan Rogers, has announced that a Brexit deal could take 10 years. That’s not fair. Most of the people who voted for it will be dead by then…”
Perhaps the joke hit a little too close to home. This YouGov chart shows that ‘Leave’ voters were predominantly aged over 50:
Perhaps that explains why they’re so grumpy about it.
Taking time out from condemning PC-gone-mad-safe-space-cry-baby-liberal-lefties, the Daily Express and the Leave.EU campaign have expressed outrage at a joke.
The anger was provoked by Gary Lineker – the unlikely new enemy of the right – after he made a joke about Brexit on the BBC.“Remainer Lineker’s dark dig at Brexit voters,” parped the Express. “Is this what the BBC has come to?!,” screamed the Leave.EU campaign’s Facebook page. Adding, “Being a mouthpiece for liberal luvvies to promote anti-Brexit propaganda and mock the elderly?” before slamming “Gary ‘Open Borders’ Lineker.”

I like this one.
I coined the term “Brexidiot” a while back… didn’t catch on though.
The Brexiters age profile is ironic as young immigrants redress the age imbalance and help pay pensions. PS My name for them is True Beleavers, derived from their blind faith in a promised land.
Brilliant!
Well of course it is a little simplistic, as usual for people who voted remain because the age group with the lowest turnout was the youngest group so the percentage of them voting either way is misleading against other groups.
I cut the rest of your comment because it was more attempted bullying of Remainers. I won’t have it, Barry.
As for what’s left – if the youngest age group had the lowest turnout, you are reinforcing the point of Mr Lineker’s joke.
Actually, Barry, I think you will find that young people did in fact vote at levels similar to old people, and the myth that young people could not be bothered to vote was propagated to deflect criticism that the people who voted to leave are the least likely (due to their age demographic) to suffer the financial fallout of Brexit. The reason there was a higher turnout for Leave in spite of a greater proportion of young people voting Remain than old people voting Leave is because there are simply more old people than young – you’ve heard about the age crisis approaching, I assume?
A study shortly after the vote proved that, rather than around 36% of eligible young voters casting a vote (as originally reported by Sky News), it was closer to 64%. This was only marginally lower than the turnout for 65+ group.
How about ‘traitors’? Their treasonous behaviour will undoubtedly destabilise Europe and I’m sure Mr. Putin is already making plans…
Lineker spoke the truth
Brexi-sneers instead of Brexiteers
I am one of those Remainers who will most probably be dead by the time the regressionists get their way.
It’s just a joke. Has the UK lost all it’s sense of humour? Who remembers Spitting Image?
